GMO debate, decide for yourself

  1. ProGMOs vs NoGMOs went very well. No punches, no name calling and no one died. http://www.popsci.com/head-head-gmo-debate-win-gm-foods

let me know what you think about the debate. This reminds me of those debates on evolution. The science on one side and then the conspiracy hunters on the other. The scientists throw out facts and the other side throws out emotional (irrational logic) facts.

I hope you find it at least worth your consideration to view. Bill Nye is a No-GMO science guy, he is still cool and level headed in my book.

  2. IMHO, anti-GMOers are misinformed. Humans have been genetically altering plants and vegetation for thousands of years. Innovative technology allows us to do this more efficiently now, that is all.

Hell, a great example is corn. Before genetic modification hundreds of years ago, a normal cob was about 2 inches long and half an inch thick.

  3. I've done this before, no matter how much research I post or what arguments I make it doesn't change many opinions.

I guess that's why they call it fanaticism, because you can't reason with it.

  4. When fear mongering exists, there can be very little to reason. Gmo's scare the shit out of people, throw in the evil mastermind Monsanto and you have yourself a fairy tale story that will make people side with the stances that provide little evidence.

  5. It's hard to get people on the side of GMO's at this point, since they are linked to Monsanto, which is undoubtedly one of the most evil organizations to ever exist. But most of what people think about gmo's is just sensationalist drivel. Especially considering we are billions of people overpopulated and they all gotta eat. And this is really the only way until the population drops.

  6. I'm not against GMOs, but the problem is that we DO NOT know for sure if GMOs can be harmful for your health.
Extensive researches should be done on the subject, maybe some persons don't care what they ingest but I do.

    You are what you eat.

Several countries banned or restricted the use of GMOs, I don't think it's out of irrational fear.

And there are few reasons why Monsanto is a shitty corporation :

    - They were originally a chemical company and were responsible for some of the most damaging toxins ever made.
    - They sue every farmer who saves their Monsanto's seeds for future use. (You gotta buy new seeds every year, you can't use the
ones your crops give you last year.)
    - They sue every farmer who has Monsanto's crops in their land even if the farmer is not responsible (Wind carries seed from farm to      farm).
-They control the seeds market and set the price they want even if it's not reasonnable.
    - They do all their ''safety testings'' by themselves and they never done extensive studies on GMOs.
    - Their goal is to annihilate every original crops so that they can have the global market to themselves.

You have a lot of misinformation here and out right lies. What is your source? the NPR article addresses many of your lies which i assume are not intentional. http://www.npr.org/blogs/thesalt/2012/10/18/163034053/top-five-myths-of-genetically-modified-seeds-busted

Monsanto, like many other corporations evolves. IBM, Sony, GM, Ford (nazi support), have all become better over time. the toxic chemicals you are concerned about were demanded by the US Gov't during time of war. We have done many things looking back were not the best because fear is a strong motivator. Sort of like the fear of GMOs.

As far as studies go, your organic foods have gone through less stringent reviews than GMO products have. The standards for labeling something organic are laughable. It is a method of growing that is dangerous to the environment. Wath the debate, PLEASE! it has been 50 years of GMO use with 30 years of studies, even the EU sees we are wasting time on this. How much longer?

Countries that banned GMOs of course would not be trying to blackmail Scientific advances support by big argo money? LOL! politics and greed not science is why.

I see the antis with the same lens that we view the hyper religious who oppose scientific advances by scaring their flocks. Be open to bettering the world by including science, it is not scary magic.

  8. How are they evil? What evidence or is it just a religious zeal in which you make something evil?

  9. They are evil for suing small time farmers into destitution.

  10. That is a lie. The only people they sued knowingly stole Monsanto seeds and wanted to profit from Monsanto's technology, Any reasonable company would protect their ingenuity and property like that. There are greedy farmers out there too, why not bust them out for being thieves?

Would you be pissed if someone stole all your grows? or stole your best hybrids then marketed them as their own?

  11. Mix ignorance with passion and you have a fanatic. GMOs have fanatics on both sides, mostly anti but there are ProGMO fanatics out there too.

  12. Gmos are bad mmmkay

  13. I'm on the GMO side, but glad that the skeptics are forcing these debates. The potential for abuse and recklessness is huge with any biological research, and should be able to face, and withstand the most rigorous and thorough scrutiny.
