    Hello!

I have found myself watering my plants every 2 days and I'm just not comfortable with fertilizing them that often.  I've been doing well with fertilizing every fourth day but I'm afraid I'm being a little conservative...

I got on the phone with Dyna-Gro (1-800-Dyna-Gro in the US.  They are cannabis friendly folks indeed: don't fear to ask cannabis specific questions <yes I have the legal right to grow where I live and our two political parties and Obama got their shit together and have totally defunded ALL federal "interference" with medical marijuana.>) and asked the guy there what he thought.
He seemed a little hesitant to fertilize every 2 days, recommending I let the plants dry out a little bit but seemed to think that every fourth day was less than what is actually possible.

So what should I do guys?  Experiment with fertilizing every 3 days and never going water alone until flush?  Continue with water every 2 and fertilizer every 4?

I know that sometimes less is more (and that's what the Dyna-Gro guy told me) but honestly I think the ideal situation is to give a plant as much nutrients as it can physically handle without nutrient burn.

It sucks so much I can't show you all my Pure Kush!!!!  I don't have any kind of camera right now.  It's so frosty!!!!!!!!!!!

(in case you haven't been reading my posts I harvested a Pure Kush clone yesterday and it's gorgeous and stanky)

Thank you in advance for the help.  I know that I've been posting a lot here lately but that's what forums are for, right?  Also please keep in mind that being a participant in the generation of useful content does make you a productive member of this community and it's not just about the individual asking questions and receiving help: it's also about the individual asking questions prompting others to generate useful data for other people as well.

  2. i use fox farm and i fertilize with every other feeding

    water
    fert
    water
    fert

    etc etc

it gives the plant some time to use the nutrients before they are fed again.
i would not feed them every single time, this may definitely lead to nutrient burn.

  3. couldn't you feed every time using a much smaller ppm?

  4. better to under feed than overfeed. i do agree with keeping them on the edge of slightly overfeeding. The plants are getting all the nutrients they need and you may notice burning on the very tips, do not panic. It is just hard to recover from extreme over feeding.

  5. OK thanks guys.  Turns out I have a real fungus gnat problem so I'm definitely going to be seeing how far I can push these plants without watering (within reason, of course).

Not really pushing, just experimenting with going 3-5 days without water.  We had some rain recently and the soil just won't dry up but that should stop now so it'll dry up soon.

These pests are very discouraging.  I have a neighbor who grew a plant WITHOUT ANY PESTICIDE AT ALL!!!!  What the hell man???????

  6. Every liquid nute source (the only thing I'll trust--various reasons) I've seen has directions on it that say "no more than every other feeding".

In other words, the MOST they should be being fed is every other watering.

Fungus gnats...buy some ladybugs, mantises, ant lions (lacewing larvae), or a product like DominionOrganics's MantisBe solution. Or buy a sulfur burner.

Solved. Guaranteed. Drop $15 (around 1500) worth of ladybugs ordered off ebay in the area, you'll have the little fuckers all over the house, and a sudden increase in spider population, but you won't find spider mites, dust mites, aphids, fruit flies, or anything else small and potentially dangerous anywhere NEAR your plants.

  7. Are the pots dry and light after 2 days buddy

  8. im on my very first grow, and ive already come to find that the 24/0 Light cycle is actually kinda bad if you are doing Fim/Topping. I realized that after i took them off 24/0 and put them on 20/4 they started to grow faster.....then after another week i put them to 18/6 where i have them now. They dont grow much while my lights are on, but when i leave for work and come back ( i run my dark cycle during my work hours cause its also the hottest where i live from about 12-6pm). They have exploded into growth. I also read somewhere that its kinda good to let your plants look for water for maybe an extra day. Not like sand dry soil, but i kinda wait till i can put my entire index finger down in the pot and can "kinda" feel some moisture then i water. Cause it makes your plants soak it up faster and they have more of a need to use it.  And it was actually Indie-kah that had posted about the Lighting schedule, and i believe when he spoke about the plants using sugars while the lights were off in the resting cycle, thats totally true. I can see it in the explosive growth that happens over 8hrs.

Alright thanks a ton guys!  There's too many helpful answers here to pick one over another as solved so you all win.  lol

And Boxmaster:  I'm growing out of the ground outdoors.  Yes, wrong time of year: I know.  But people should realize that growing out of season outdoors isn't really that dumb when you consider how it provides lessons to beginners like me to prepare us for the growing season and, of equal importance, the ability to preview a strain and be able to make an educated decision as to what strain to dedicate yourself, your time, your money, your nutrients, your every cannabis growing moment of the season to.

My choice for 2015 is Pure Kush from Greenhouse.  I understand that some people don't like them but this strain is definitely some AAA cannabis.  Maybe not 30% THC but it should fetch top dollar as far as outdoor cannabis can possibly be due to it's GORGEOUS trichomes, exotic purpling (did you know that on the black market in California, pre medical boom at least during the late 90's/early 2000's that literally ANY purple strain is highly sought after?) and DANK stank.

You must have the patented "dank stank" going on my friends.  :D :D :D

Edit:  Oh, and I'm also going to grow 2-5 Mango Haze plants, which are 1:1 ratio THC to CBD, both potentially up to 8% potency.  It's from CBD Crew and it's for my uncle with Parkinson's and my liver (toxic cholesterol medication).

Keep your fingers crossed for me guys cause I have a really big need for both the THC and CBD plants to grow successfully.  Thanks!

  10. Hey Lit, do you have a cold-frame greenhouse?

No I don't.  If I did and I had more money I would be a happy man because maybe then I could add supplemental lighting and some kind of generator and try growing outdoors all year round!

That is what I really need.

I live in southern California and we, short of a rare overnight freeze, tend to have great weather all year round.

Before global warming started kicking in (I swear to god that the weather started irreversibly going screwy sometime in the late '90's) we used to hardly make ANY distinction between the different times of year.

((Since this is a European website I trust that mentioning global warming isn't a politically divisive issue.  Here in the US people are so ridiculous about it...  I mean, if the global worldwide scientific consensus says one thing and your politician says something else are you REALLY going to side with the politician?????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!))

In the county (US territories within states are divided by counties, where there are bundles of cities operating in some kind of unity) where I live, anyway.  I am literally in the perfect spot for the world's very best weather.  You should have seen the week we had in the beginning of the cold season where it was solid 70 degree F weather every single day, give or take 2 degrees.

Nowadays it can get a little warm in the summer and a little cold in the winter but anybody living in a place of real seasonal weather would be rolling on the floor laughing at me for saying these temps are a little warm/cold.

So, short of a freeze, the cannabis will survive.  That is, if I can get rid of these damned fungus gnats!!!!!!!  lol

  12. god damn i live in the wrong place, i need to move down there
