So I just traded some rolling trays for some glass, one piece I got is a mini rig. I got a $20 domeless nail to go with it, 10mm fyi, not sure if it's quartz or glass forgot to ask and old man didn't say. Anyways, I've read up a little on seasoning and stuff, not a whole lot of positive information. Especially considering I don't know what the material is. First couple dabs tasted gross though, like sort of plasticy. I heated the nail a few times for about a minute each time, and now I've moved to the rig itself as I can smell it sort of. The hash is good everywhere else BTW, my dry rig it tastes great, my pen it tastes great, when I picked it up it tasted great. Do you guys think it's the rig or the nail? I don't think a nail could give off such noxious fumeage. I'm off to a friends though, we'll put a little mileage on it regardless, probably just needs to be used right?
You're absolutely correct. That's a Quartz nail and since you didn't technically season it, it might taste a bit weird until it's broken in. Super beautiful mini tube though. Love it. The taste will go away with use though. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
That's an awesome little tube, I'm jealous. And its probably just the nail, give it some time. Quartz is like that from what i've heard, only i didn't know it tasted like plastic. I've never even used a quartz nail in all honesty, I'll just stick to Ti i guess, plastic dosn't sound to great... From what everyone says though quartz has much better taste after a week or two.

So after about 7 mores dabs through this mini rig, the taste did not change and the nail got clogged. 10mm is just too small for an everyday piece. Even if it didn't taste like crap, I wouldn't use it due to the clogging. It's getting shelf'd, I'm trading for a recycler rig tomorrow anyways. Not a huge loss since I only paid for the wood.
Yea looks cool but I want a bong oil rig now. See some nice ones on Amazon. Not too bad in price. Also the hurricane bong looks amazing for herb. Edit: also I can only do titanium nails. You should try one out man. Pricey but very nice.

I wouldnt say you got boned cause that glass looks nice. Originally i though u meant some raw trays or somethin. You should be able to taste whatever your smoking but that should be ALL that you taste. A nicer 10mm domeless shouldnt clog. I had have HE ti 10mm nail (not domeless) that works great daily if that helps at all. I used to have a similar style recycler it wasnt bad until my gf dropped it.

So the new piece tasted a little funny too, and now that I got some different, better hash, it's tasting good now. Just got a quartz castle style domeless too and it just needed to be broken in a bit I guess as well. The first hit was the only one that tasted off. It's just weird though because the old hash tasted fine through my dry rig, but the wet piece's gave off something noticeable and not that pleasant to me. I am loving the recycler though, going to have to get another that function a bit better, this one doesn't cyclone a whole lot and when it does you're getting close to a nice little kiss.
That's the closest I've seen to my scentific recyler sorry for the awkward angle but you get the idea..bout time to do the dishes for me
