Nutrient deficiency? Can anyone help?

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by Douglas Thomas, Dec 18, 2014.

  1. Hey guys. My girl is 4 weeks into flower today. She's in fox farm oceans forest soil. She's eating GHs maxibloom in powder form. I water her with 6.4-6.6 water each time with a run off of 6.4-6.5. Under a 1000w hps. Canopy never gets above 80 and average during the day is 74. Night gets to about 60 at the lowest. As far as my research goes, everything is normal. The maxi bloom doesn't show any maganese and these look like they could be that deficiency based on my research. Could anyone give me a little personal experience advice? Here are some pics. I'll take new ones tonight in better light. This is happening on newer growth towards the middle and top of the plant. Hasn't affected bud leaves yet but I'd like to catch it before it does. Thanks guys! 2. If you can't tell I'm talking about the brown and yellow spots on the leaves. They seem to start from the stem and branch towards the tip. Spots and discoloration

  3. Check out the Plant Abuse thread.

FF has been affecting a lot of plants on GC. Not sure if it is a hot soil and more nutrients end up burning plants or just the massive number of growers using FF and we are just hearing the bad.

  4. She experience nute burn at the beginning. But she's been in the same soil for over a month. Same pot since veg. I don't think it's a nute burn Cuz she's been doing good for 4 weeks until this week.. But I will check out the thread. Would love some more input from some other eyes. Thanks progmoII. :). I will look more into the soil. As far as I knew the FF doesn't have time released nutrients. Thanks :)

  5. Have you gotten any water drops or condensation on the leaves? Ive had burn spots that looked like that.

  6. It's kind of hard to tell with the current lighting. Can you turn the lights off and take a pic with the flash? It could be anything from burn to pests.

  8. Yea tonight when the lights turn on I'll turn the new fluorescent I just got. No there shouldn't have been any water drops Cuz I don't mist her during flower and the humidity is low. I hope no pests :/. She's in a tent. I'll update with pics tonight. Everything else looks good and normal even the buds and sugar leaves. She's perky and acting healthy beside those spots. Come back at 1030 pm pacific time and check out the pics. Thanks Guys!
I've looked at the chart and closest I can see is either manganese or calcium

  9. Here's the better pics guys ImageUploadedByTapatalk1418971450.892271.jpg ImageUploadedByTapatalk1418971461.920650.jpg ImageUploadedByTapatalk1418971472.654388.jpg ImageUploadedByTapatalk1418971491.138594.jpg ImageUploadedByTapatalk1418971505.989151.jpg

  10. PH isn't the only thing that causes lockout, residual buildup from the water-solubles that you've been putting into your soil can have that effect even if your ph is right. It's the reason I don't use them. To know for sure you'd have to test the ppm of your runoff as well as ph.

One should avoid drowning their plants with a flush whenever possible, but at the same time it's unhealthy to allow residuals to build up in the soil. That's why people say to water until you get plenty of runoff, because it helps to wash away some of those residuals, and if you do that every time you water/feed (along with going easy on your nute concentrations) then you can avoid having to "flush" all together.

Not saying that's the problem or that you don't do those things, but assuming you're giving them everything they need I can't think of anything else that would be causing it. I'm no expert but that's been my experience with using water-solubles in soil, so definitely get a few more opinions on it. Just offering my $.02 :smoke:

  11. Love it thanks! i don't check ppm but I do water til I get a good amount of runoff (that's how I check the ph) and as far as I know the maxibloom I use should have everything I need besides possibly manganese. So I have two options.
    1. I flush her just this once before the last week and see if that helps.
    2. Go get some cal mag and see if that's what's she's lacking...

Any other opinions? Has anyone seen these spots before and know what to do to solve it. Or is it something I should be worrying about right now? She's 4 weeks in as of last night. Have another 4.5 to go til expected harvest.

  12. Pleaseeeeee. Need more input!

  13. Do you guys think I could add some Flora micro that has cal and mag in it to my water just to see if that may help? In a small dose of course

There's a difference between mangonese and magnesium. Cal/ mag has both I don't know what flora micro consists of. Take this time too look into properly amended organic soil and you will not have these issues. No nutes, no ph , no flush, I do need cal/mag because I use RO water, but that's no big, I used it when I used to use city water too. Cal/ mag is a must to have on hand IMHO

Until then has the jury came too a conclusion on your problem? Looks to me like your moving in the right direction, but like I said I have no idea about those nutes, don't use them anymore, I've used other brands in the past. Manganese is a pretty rare deficiency, it happens. If its a cal/mag issue I personally wouldn't use the other nutes. Let it dry after the flush you gave and give it cal mag in next watering. Only my opinion

  15. That looks like a classic magnesium def, 1-2 tsp of epsom salt should help

  16. Micro only contains calcium they supply the Mg in the bloom formula.

  17. I would love to try organic. Maybe we can chat or I will do some research it just seems complicated to start. But I think I have figured out my problem! So in soil both magnesium and calcium lock out at a PH of 6.4. So I went back and checked my watering records, and like the noob I am I see that the last three waters I put in water at a PH of 6.5 coming out at 6.3 and one of them I put in 6.4 coming out 6.2! Now I'm not a pro but my logic says I locked out the calcium and mag and so next step would be a flush and a properly PHd dose. I did that last night so we will see how she turns out here's the lockout chart. Thanks everyone for your help. I'll let you know how it turns out! ImageUploadedByTapatalk1419365123.824200.jpg
