Closet Grow (LOST) seems impossible

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by snoozeberries, Dec 18, 2014.

  1. Ok so I am completely hopeless. I tried growing pot a few years ago with LED lights propped upwards in a closet and the plants were drooping in their beginning stage. I don't know how to install a carbon filter or scrubber. I have a regular old fan that you would use on a hot day and that's all I have.

How am I going to keep the smell out? I live in a basement bachelor suite in a house with two other tenants.
Where am I going to put my LED's?

Carbon filter and inline fan, google it bro its a pretty simple set up, just hook them together and exhaust it somewhere away from the grow. Do you and the other tenants share living quarters? Read the stickies on here they have all the info needed to get thru a grow, there's a shit ton of info needed to get things right. Its all already written, there's not really any need to write it again. Ask specific questions when they come up...good luck

  3. What kind of LEDs are you using? Alots changed in the last few years with leds

  4. well, you're good for one, that wall having the shelving already secured is good, i'm betting that stuff can handle 10-20 pounds so you have someplace to hang your lights if drilling/screwing into the walls is a problem...

if the walls aren't some white color that may be an issue, or you could make a smaller grow enclosure around that shelf unit and make the box in a way thats not obtrusive to the structure.

the best advice I can give based on the information at hand...you've been out of the game for a bit, step back and look at whats going on now, whats new whats not. then make a list, start with what you want, and then just stand in that closet and stare, writing down everything you need to do to get there...you'd be surprised how quickly things can fall into place that way...

  5. Yes. Make a list. Ensure the option you choose is viable so you don't get all started and then have a 100 degree closet oven for baking plants.

    1. get a maid and get rid of room mates.
    2. After the closet is cleaned out you need a good fan, lights and carbon inline fan.
    3. You can get a 4in'er for that room. Does it have air vents? if so you can help control temps.
    4. Check out Just4Growers and scroll to the venting and environmental control section. You can calculate for ventilation.
    5. Buy strains that have low odor. You can go to SeedFinder EU and they have a search engine where you can filter for odor, grow time, yields, color, climate ect.
    6. Buy or make your own Ona deodorizer with small intake fan for you living space.
    7. Consider venting filtered air to the outside or a wall space or attic. The risk is if your filter separates from the hose and you start sending stink through the fan. Secure the hell out of your fittings.
    8. You can replace that light with a small ceiling fan and reverse the air flow to move air through the closet. The idea is to have an inline fan that replaces air faster than the fan and a cooling vent can replace the air, your negative pressure. The shelves you have are perfect for light support and fan/filter support. May put another set along the back wall but your braces are well placed on the shelves. Another option is to wire your LEDs in to the overhead light but it seems you are not comfortable with DIY.
    9. be prepared to place a silencer (insulating or sound deadening material) around the inline fan, also research the quietest fans.
    10. Ensure your circuit breakers are not maxxed out. maybe buy your lights locally that way you can exchange them if they are too powerful. Plus you get to meet cool people and support your local stores.
    11. Extension cords, do not go cheap, 10 gauge would be my selection but most homes are 12/14 gauge.
    12. Monitor humidity and temps with a cheap wireless monitor to minimize opening closing the room. Go in when you have to especially during flowering. This goes back to find a low scent strain.

    have a good day!
