When Does Weed Go Bad?

Discussion in 'Marijuana Stash Box' started by nimy, Dec 17, 2014.

  1. Hi all. I'm more of a casual smoker and I bought half an ounce a couple months back and still have some left. I use this jar: http://www.amazon.com/The-Other-Side-Vapes-X-Large/dp/B0074GWXU8/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1418854234&sr=8-11&keywords=dark+jars

I keep it in my closet which is generally cool temperature. How long should this be lasting? Last time I smoked, it still smelled like good weed although it's not as soft as it used to be. Meaning, it's not hard but only some parts of the bud feel a bit flakey as if they're just falling off.

Any thoughts? Going to smoke some tonight and see how it tastes and what kinda high I get, but would like some thoughts on this ~

its drying out... people will actually cure weed in jars for months on months to increase the better taste and smell.

if you keep it in an airtight jar it will last longer than you need it to.

  3.
What do you mean by cure? And yeah, this jar is very airtight, but I suppose it is time for it to dry out lol.. Been quite a while

Personally, I dislike the Orange Peel method. You can cut a Q-tip in half, moisten the end and tape it to the top of the jar. :smoke:

  7. Goddamn.. This some next level type shit.. I just smoke the damn thing and enjoy it every time but had no idea such methods existed.. Cool cool, first will see what type of high I get and if it still tastes alright tonight, thanks guys ~

Curing is the MJ version of aging.  Similar to barrel aging of liquor or wine.  Over time chlorophyll and other harsh smoking chemicals break down and some chemical reactions take place that will change the characteristics of the MJ.  It often will make for a better smoke and high.  For example, I grew Dinafem - Diesel and cured it.  When I first cut it down and smoked some, it was a very clear headed high without a body effect.  I was not keen on the effect personally.  After one month in a large mason jar curing, the lemon flavor and smell really came out and the high was not only more intense, but also included some body buzz.  It was really an excellent strain after curing.  I just picked up some more Diesel seeds last week as a matter of fact  :bongin: .  The hardest part is regulating moisture levels to prevent mold as well as the weed being too dry in the jar as the reactions desired do not take place without some moisture.

Ahh okay.. Thanks for the clarification :) yeah maintaining moisture levels seem a bit difficult.. Seems like I will have to take some different measures and apply some tips given on here if I want to keep my bud fresh for a couple of months.. I think it's OK for now but it is getting dry :x still smells good though thankfully. My bud is at that lemon flavor stage as well. Smells better than when I got it but yeah, getting a bit flakey at the same time

  10. if your weeds dry then just put it in an airtight jar and it will be fine lol, stop worrying bout damn moisture levels, wtf.

  11. If you can find 62% Boveda Humipaks they are amazing little 2-way moisture packages for like $2 each and they last months. They work great at properly hydrating weed and you can leave them in your jar for as long as you have the weed, no worrys about mold because it will add/remove moisture so the jar stays at 62% humidity. Originally made for cigar humidors... the best invention for weed. Google them.  :smoking:

I use em, they are fantastic....hard to find here in the uk though at 62%...in fact, every % was offered at my favorite cigar emporium EXCEPT 62%...I asked the owner why he didn't carry them and the bastard answered me with a question"Why do you need 62%?" I felt like slappin him...I said "because the higher humidity bovedas give me mold issues". He was an asshole. If you are going to carry a line of products WHY leave out one? This asshat made a personal judgement call and decided to carry the entire boveda line except for the one I wanted....I eventually got them from ebay.

  13. What bloodbooger said. I laughed when I typed their username. Blaze on.

Sent from my HTC420 while being high as fuck!

  14. Damn idk bout no moisture level but I got high as fuck yesterday off the weed that I had for a while.. Got a good buzz but an extreme body high lol I think it's fine the way it is

  15. This is the method I use, and it works great!

  16. In theory as long as your bud is air tight it could last forever. The real question is "when does THC breakdown?" Because that is one of the active chemicals known to produce the psychedelic effects. As far as I know it really only breaks down when exposed to oxygen. The plant matter will become more dry throughout time as it ages, but this isn't a sign of anything bad happening.

WIth that being said, practically speaking; as long as you keep your bud air tight, in a cool, dark location, exposing it to a minimal amount of air, you will be good for many years of storage while retaining essentially the same potency.

  17. Does the jar have a rubber seal on that plastic lid? If not its not air tight and your stash is drying out.
