Precipitate in nutrients

Discussion in 'Hydroponic Growing' started by mendeleyev, Dec 17, 2014.

  1. So I'm using coco and I have my nutrients, the general hydroponics line plus calmag.

I am on my first grow and I am noticing that in my gallon jug I am getting some precipitate about 2 days after mixing the nutrients.

Should I be concerned about this?

I would assume so, because precipitation is reducing the availability of my nutrients.

I usually pH to 6.5, should I go lower? Do I need to make fresh nutrients each feed?

This is what it looks like

  3. you should only mix up the amount of nutrients you plan to use at that time.

unless you are bubbling your mix, it doesn't have a shelf life ;)

shake it up and ensure it mixes before using it

I'm not sure what cal mag is. Sounds like it gives your plant calcium. I also use general hydroponic powder. That's not the type of precipitate that I see in my Res. Heat up your water in the microwave and then add your nutrients after it mixes add the solution to your tank.

  5. Yea use an air stone to keep all that good stuff mixed up. In my hydro I like to stay around 5.8-6.0 something about that helps reduce nutrient lockout or your plant takes up more of the nutrients or some crap like that.

  6. Man, you Mad Scientists using hydro give a laugh. I hope all that fiddling, changing, monitoring, mixing, checking and buying is worth it in the end. What got you started that route anyway? Friend? Book? Serious question meant in the best way possible...I'm genuinely curious.

  7. I did my research and made my decision based on hearing that hydro gives better yields.

I spend all of about 10 minutes a day mixing and checking my nutrients. It really is a small amount of time.

This particular post is irrelevant and I have moved beyond this issue. My newest issue is that I have one plant having issues while the other isn't.

I would like to politely ask you to not hijack my posts, this makes two now, and change the topic.

  8. Do you use straight tap water? or have hard water? I have well water at my house and the 2 times i tried using unfiltered water i had the same thing in my res.
