Hello Grasscity! Now that I live in a legal state, I decided to get going with a grow to provide myself with good, quality, affordable medicine. I love the community here and have learned much of what I know about growing by lurking on here since my teenager days. Now it's finally my chance to participate so please feel free to grab up a chair and come along with me on my first time growing some (hopefully) beautiful plants. Here are the basic setup details for my first run. 2 Strains: (1 Clone Each) CHOCOLATE HASHBERRY BREEDER: Purple Caper Seed Company TYPE: 50/50 Hybrid GENETICS: Blackberry Kush x Chocolate Kush (Chocolate Kush is Moroccan Hashplant x Chocalope Cheese) DESCRIPTION: Extremely frosty light-green buds, covered in pale and dark colored pistils. The flavor on the Chocolate Hashberry is rare indeed. It finds a spot on the pallet right behind the tip of the tongue; it is the perfect balance of semi-sweet savory. PLATINUM OG TYPE: 50/50 Hybrid GENETICS: Master Kush x Afghani OR Purps x Master Kush x OG Kush DESCRIPTION: It's no wonder where the Platinum got its name; this kush strain is so completely covered in crystals it takes on an actual silvery platinum bling, beautifully adorned with purple hues and bright orange hairs. Setup: Light: 2x400w MH/HPS Nutes: GH 3 Part for Veg, FloraNova Bloom and M.O.A.B. for flower Space: Closet (89"x 25"x 99") Air: 434 CFM Wind King 6", Phresh Carbon Filter Started in Waterfarms, transplanted to RDWC/UnderCurrent DIY system Pics coming up next.
Currently I've got my scrog net about 70% full. Let's get you guys up to speed with some pics from clone. The beginning was filled with minor noob mistakes, like too much heat and light for young plants, a little early nute burn from going to gung-ho with nutes. I started out with a couple of droopy clones, but they started looking great after a little bit of love and caring. When I first got them CHB- POG- First signs of the nutrient burn early on (I thought it was a deficiency so I made the mistake of adding cal-mag and superthrive and burned them more before I realized mistake...after that hard learned lesson I've stayed in a PPM range that they appreciate a lot more!) Growth in the waterfarms is really nice and fast for these young plants so I decided to do a little LST CHB- POG- A little training goes a long way...the CHB responded much better because I didn't tie down the POG as aggressively... Little shot of them in the bathroom while I put the second 400w in the room around week 4
Here's why I decided to get an extra light for the room, as you can see they were getting too big to fit under just one. Here they are under 2 lights and in the new UC/RDWC system I built. They are 12 gallon waterproof totes connected by 2" PVC with a 700GPH pump on the return line. Got a hold of a couple free tickets to the Emerald Cup yesterday, like the cannabis cup but strictly organic! One of the best events I have ever been to. Bought an eighth of organic lab tested 31% bud, chiquita banana or something like that. So many great genetics going around, I went ahead and got some Super Silver Haze beans and a Kens GDP pheno from the original GDP breeder that yields ultra heavy (It's crossed with Himalayan Hashplant). Think I'm gonna run the SSH on my next cycle, thinking about vegging a couple seeds, determining sex, and then cut clones from a guaranteed female. Might keep it as a mom for a while too, who knows, I've heard many good things about this SSH strain from a growing standpoint. Also got a bunch of free nute samples, GH Diamond Nectar, Mad Farmer M.O.A.B, Be One, Root It, and other stuff from their line, and some organic compost tea mixes....(theres no point in putting these organic tea mixes into my hydro solution is there?....I use h2o2 regularly) My main requirement for my next run is HEAVY yields in addition to good genetics. The two plants I have now are great genetics, but are very average yielders. I want to be in the 1LB club, so I figure heavy yielding genetics are essential to my harvesting satisfaction.
That's what I thought. Anybody interested in some organic compost tea mixes then? Free from me to you
Good to see ya chef, I should send you some of these organic tea packets, you may be able to get some great use out of them if anything, theres an email on the packets in the picture, the company would probably be down to send samples if you pay shipping I'd hate to waste em View attachment 1645887
Did you get silica in that sample pack? I've been using it lately to raise my ph instead of using ph up.
Battling high res temps in the mid to high 70's. When I built this system I figured that since I have the res in a seperate room it wouldn't need a chiller and now I'm seeing that I need to take more precautions against root rot. I covered everything inside the tent in white polyfilm so the plant totes and air pumps and pvc are all covered....hopefully this will help! I also have 2 frozen gallon jugs I am swapping out every couple hours so I have the temp at 68. Ever since I started using the floranova bloom my roots are stained brown which is annoying because it's hard to tell if root rot is setting in or not. Hey Letter, I see that you use DM RootZone and it seems to do your system really well! Would you reccomend it? What are it's biggest pros/cons? I'm thinking about adding it into my regimen to protect my roots... Anyway, I'm just tucking as much as possible and trying to prepare my screen for the holiday vacation I'm taking. I've got a buddy watching things while I'm gone, and right now I can run my system nearly a full 2 weeks with only one top up so I'm not too worried. I plan to flip the bitches into production mode as soon as I return Might raise the screen a few inches before I leave in order to give myself some more working room...thoughts?
pH: 5.3 PPM: 950 (Just dumped new nute solution in) Here's a couple shots before lights on today, as always, advice/comments are always welcome
Hey man! Yeah I love the dm root zone! Pros: Sterilizes the reservoir while promoting healthy root growth. Cons: You can't use any microbial or beneficial bacterial additives in your reservoir. The dm zone would kill them. I haven't stopped using it since I bought the first bottle.
Well I already blast em with h2o2 at the moment cause of my root rot fear, so no worries on cutting out any bennies. I'll stop by the hydro store and pick some up tomorrow
Hoooooooly crap. I calibrated my pH meter for the first time since I bought it and realized I've been running my soup at <4.0 ph for god knows how long!!!!! Plants look fine so I got really lucky but I have a feeling I have been using a non calibrated meter for some time now... Anyway I added some silica and a little ph up to the system and while I'm waiting for that to adjust I'm debating whether or not to pour the full strength of DM Zone into my res, even though I'm not doing a water change (just did one yesterday). I feel like I can deal with any pH changes that may happen as long as I keep my meter calibrated haha. Letter, do you think it's a good idea to just add the Zone into my nute soup in the res and then let it add itself to the system or do I really have to change out all the water again :/ Note to self: CALIBRATE YOUR METERS DUMMY can't wait to have a foamy clean root zone like yours letter
Looks good man. I wouldn't cover the air pump in plastic though, they produce quiet a bit of heat and if you cover it, it will get hotter and warm the nutrient solution with warm air. Direct a fan on it would be better to disperse the heat in to the air instead
