When one gets, let's say, a bone graft in the jaw in the context of a dental implant, one is advised to hold off on tobacco products (one-three weeks from my understanding, depending on how fast the socket heals). This is first of all to prevent dry socket, but also it retards the osseo integration process. My question is, would smoking cannabis have as bad an effect? I know it's smoke, but from my understanding, it doesn't slow bone growth like tobacco. For reference, I had this same procedure, was feeling fine the next day, and smoked weed a week and a half after, and never felt any pain or shifting of the graft, so I assumed it was fine. Have other people smoked even sooner and been okay with the implant?

  3. You'll be fine. Don't listen to the paranoia. It is safe to smoke tobacco and weed trust me. I had 2 implants for my front upper jaw 3 months ago along with a bone graft and stitches (sutures) were left in my mouth for 17 days. As soon as I got home I smoked weed/tobacco out of a bong all evening and continued to smoke almost all day every day up until now. The dentist took an X-ray and a 3D cone scan yesterday and everything has healed up perfectly. I'm getting the crowns in 3 weeks. The trick is to pull your cones slowly and drink plenty of water to keep your mouth moist. Healing slows when you have cotton mouth. Take plenty of multi vitamins.
