Clones right after transplant

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by bigslick7878, Dec 12, 2014.

  1. So I have figured out getting clones to root, have a pretty high success rate now.

But I am running into problems after transplanting. Lots of them wilting, barely staying alive and drooping with light green color. Some others are fine.

I threw about 20 right into flower about 10 days ago and all but 5 look like they are aren't going to make it.

I then read about the "weening" process when looking for what I could be doing wrong, for going from high humidity to low so sudden, and how that might cause problems.

    I usually do like this...

Cutting into dome, spray a lot for first few days, less and less til about day 7-9. Take cutting out of dome put under t5 2 ft away from light. Spray here and there, about day 14 transplant into 1g pot.

The thing is I have zero problems until transplant, they look great while in cups and for first week or so in 1g, but then fall off. So if it is shock from going to low humidity out of dome, why isn't it showing until after transplant and a week later?

I will say that my veg room is only around 30%, but again why are the problems not showing right after they come out of the dome if that is the issue.

I am going out today and buying a full room humidifier, and might try losing the dome earlier or all together if I can get the humidity up high enough.

    Thoughts?

That's interesting. What's the makeup of your medium you putting it into? Coco, soil? what kinda soil? Was it flushed?

  3. I start the clones in very light starting soil, transplant into Dr Earth organic fresh out of the bag with added perlite.

Here is a great example of them right before transplant out of cups, a day after transplant, and 10 days later.

  4. To much light to fast will shock them.. Ease them in gently.

I am so open minded you should only think like me..

  5. Its fine....its just a plant that went from living off the leaf moisture....to living off the new and small roots.
If you worry spray some water on them but theyll live as long as you see a couple roots and you give those roots a good drink after transition.
Mine go from humidity dome to 400w mh. They spring back after the first lights off

  6. While true, why stress them that young. A simple see through cloth draped over the new growth will work wonders for future health.. I've always wanted to set a small umbrella just for fun... ImageUploadedByGrasscity Forum1418953539.850217.jpg

    Maybe I will 👍

Maybe try leaving them in the solo cups a bit longer. For whatever reason, those couple of plants are having problems with the root system. At that size, even at 30% humidity they should not be wilting out if they are taking up adequate moisture from the roots. The plant on the right is extremely droopy, a symptom that really only occurs with overwatering, underwatering, or extremely high heat. I assume your temps are good, so it has to be a root issue. Unless your going crazy and putting a 1k eight inches above them, clones a couple of weeks old should be able to handle hid lighting.

Another idea might be to build a DIY aero cloner. They work freaking amazing, and you do not need a dome so the plants should have less shock because their isn't a change in humidity and they are already use to getting 100% of the water from the root zone.

  8. Simply because this plant loves stress...
One of these died in transplant for 3 days...can you tell which one?...these are less than a month old from cut.

  9. Some people use stress to promote health. Even I do to a small degree but keep in mind stress ups your chances of hermy quite a bit.. Just One seed sack on the plant will ruin every singe female in the room..

  10. Im pickin up what youre throwing down but dig this....a plant cannot hermie in veg......i have had hermie gen 1s only to clip the top and put it in a better environment.....bam! No balls.

  11. Ha, every body gets lucky every now and then 💖I've had plants show "balls" even in the last weeks of flowering due to things as simple as under watering or over fertilization stress. It's a hormonal change.. Some times genetic or sometimes brought on by stress..
It only really matters in flower ... Pollen getting to flowers creates seeds... Lots of seeds.. And that happens in the flowering stage darling 🙋

  12. That meant no balls in flower.....we went from drooping clones to hermies....no wonder people are confused.....ok ill say it again....the fukin droop on the clone is normal when transitioning from foliar to root zone. You just asked a plant to live in the desert when it was in the rainforest.
If you got problems at the end of flower you
    A flower too long
    B screwed up weeks b4

Sorry op for the extra info
    And above^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Its not luck....its skill....i can take someones trash and make it a treasure
And the last comment was absolutely pointless. Why would anyone care about seeds or nuts if it was not on the BUD (flower)

I think its funny when people like to argue proven facts and give the novice some half cocked idea you have...EVERYONE do everyone a favor and keep the "I ALWAYS WANTED TO" or "IVE ALWAYS WONDERED IF THAT WOULD WORK" comments deep down inside you and never bring them out again.

And OP....do not go get a humidifier....its a weed....it grows in the desert.

  13. Droopy clones might be common but not necessary if care is taken.. If shocked a lot the hormones change and you can get hermi when you flower.. Yes a shock when they are that young can do it.
There are lots of ways to prevent droop"
    A strong mother
    Low nitrogen in the mother
    Mother well watered/flushed
Warm rooting zone for new clones
    Correct lighting
And as few drastic changes as possible when transplanting...

I always want.. And wonder.. Hehe..
So many different ways to grow is fun to talk about.. Right? 👫

  14. So I figured out what problem was, too much water. I have found that clones in their early stages need VERY little water. I backed off to tiny amounts and no problems whatsoever. Have a steady flow going for my SOG now.

Even the ones in flower came back to life a little bit after I let them dry out.
