  1. Jan 4th Update
    Seeds
I've been checking the seeds daily, there is one that has a small white protrusion but not enough to call it a tail yet. going to give them another 24hr and if nothing new has shown I will try another batch.

    Tent Conditions
    Temp: max 78.4f  min 64.4f  current  70.3f
    RH:     min  10%  max  74%  current  10%
Res Temp:  max 75.5f  min  56.3f  current 70.3f
I'm a bit concerned about the temps rising too high, I've been leaving the tent flaps open to help with this.  I am going to try adding a 140 cfm fan in the duct line to see if that helps.

    Seedlings Day 37 from germ.

    5ml of CaMg+
    10ml of Liquid Karma
10ml of Pure Blend Pro Grow
    2 drops of B vitamin
    15ml of Aquashield

    NL Day 51 from seed
The plant appears to be doing ok, growth is progressing normally.  I am concerned about the colour of the roots as they look tan.  The roots feel firm, not slimey and smell fresh with new growth showing as tiny white hairs.  I think this is possibly a result of moving to the larger bucket. and having to squeeze the roots through the small hole in the lid of the old bucket and then trough the lid of the new one. The plant doesn't seem to be affected other than the colour change to the roots. She is still eating well.

Sweet grow mate, glad I found it.

Do you flush NL at all with any cleaners?

    • Like Like x 1
  4. Hi G2D, I haven't used any cleaners on my NL plant.   The reason I haven't is I use beneficial microbes and think that a cleaner would kill the microbes.  I am thinking about giving the roots a soak in a bucket of diluted Hydrogen peroxide if the discoloration gets worse, but as long as the plant is doing ok and new root shoots are showing I'll leave it be.  Glad to have you here.  I'll be popping over to your thread to have a look to.

  5. Yeah they would kill them mate, reason I asked was yeah the roots do look a bit brown but the plant itself still looks perfectly happy and healthy? I think you a suppose to flush dwc every now and then regardless but you'd have to double check that.

    DWC Plants
    C-99  Day 3 in DWC
This plant seems slow to respond to the DWC bucket, this could be because of the high temps it has been subjected to.  Hopefully it is busy growing roots and will take off soon.  In the past it has taken between 5 to 7 days to see roots hit the water.

    WW  Day 24 in DWC
I noticed that this plant seems to have either a deficiency or is sensitive to pH changes or is being overferted, not sure what it is if I was to guess at a deficiency I would think magnesium as it is appearing on the older leaves first and new growth appears unaffected. I'm guessing this is probably caused by the high pH I found.   it will get a fresh batch of nutes  in a couple of days.

    NL  Day 54 from seed
The tan tint on the roots appears to be fading and there are new shoots appearing.  the overall health of the plant seems good, noticed a slight burn at the very tips of some of the older leaves.  I'm thinking this is a sign I should back off the nutes a bit.

    Notes
I took 7 cuttings off of the NL plant,  I cut branches that were at least 3in in length and had 3 nodes.  I immediately placed them in a measuring cup of RO water. Next I trimmed off excess leaves and placed the cutting into a glass baking pan filled with water and made a 45 degree cut under the water and then immediately into rooting hormone.  From there I put the cuts into neoprene inserts and placed those into an aero style cloner.  The cloner has 2 gals of ro water with 8 drops of Pure Blend Pro Grow, a small amount of pH down and 20 ml of Aquashield.  I placed the cloner under a CFL wich is 18inches above the cloner.  Now I'll wait and see what happens.
I have been cleaning my RDWC system from a previous setup and am slowly getting the parts arranged and set out in the configuration that I think will work.  The larger res and having it external to the tent will allow 24 hour access to the nutes and allow me to control root zone temps much better as I can float frozen 2L bottles in it.
The next task that I am thinking about is getting a veg area set up as I hope to start flowering as soon as the NL clones are rooted.  I also still need to install the booster fan into the duct work but am waiting till I can get a reducer as my fan is 4in and ducting is 5in.

  7. Thanks G2D,  I'm thinking that the plants may each get a dunk into some pH'ed RO water with diluted Hydrogen peroxide for a couple of hours, as a kind of flush, then give them fresh nutes.  That is going to take me a bit of time, If I have my RDWC set up soon I will do that before placing them into it.

  8. Pahly, your description of how you took your cuttings and started your clones is spot on; good job! The hardest part now is waiting for the bottom of the stems to form an almost whitish bump which means roots are about to pop out. It almost looks like a giant zit is about to pop! In my bubble clone--which is VERY similar in principle/method to your aerponic cloner--it took about 10 - 14 days before I started noticing swelling/roots, but it has taken even longer at times.

NL is a great strain. I grew it under a high power florescent once as an experiment and it produced much more than expected.

In by straight DWC grows, the roots often began to turn brown towards the middle/end of the grow. I don't know why, but that was my experience.

You will LOVE the 24/7 access and convenience of the RDWC/res. Not only is the access nice, but the extra water in your res means your plants will be more stable for longer periods of time. It's ALL good when you have a res :)

  10. Hi PurpleMonkey,  Clones are looking good no wilting or yellowing and no further white fuzzy stuff either.  The stems have not changed yet sot patiently waiting for the white pimples to show.  They are even producing new leaf sets.  I'm keeping them on an 18/6 light cycle.  I'm hoping they pop soon so I can switch to flowering in the tent.  Working on setting up a veg area next.  I'll have some updates tonight and will include a pic of the cuttings.  I've been busy with work and haven't had much time to post.

    WW  Day 29 in DWC
The WW has a very different structure from the NL it has less branching and a very thick stalk.  I also noticed that it has grown into two tops without me doing anything to it.  not sure if it will continue to grow in a polyploidy pattern or not. it is catching up to the NL in height.  I find this plant intriguing as it doesn't seem to grow in the normal Christmas tree shape, more straight up and down.  The necrosis has stopped and new growth appears good.

The plant seems unphased by the removal of branches for cuttings.  NL continues to chug along still producing 9 fingered leaves.  Branches are spreading out and she is getting wider as well as taller.  She follows the classic Christmas tree shape.

Set up a 2 bucket recirculating system with a res.  The buckets are fed at the bottom from a 1/2inch line and overflow out the top through a 1inch return back to the res.  The system holds 15 gals or 60L  when full the depth of water in the Res is 24cm deep.  I am using a 290 gph pump to circulate and I have turned it to it's lowest setting.

    Notes
I'm thinking I will have to abandon my plan of a staggered harvest.  Originally I was thinking of running 4 plants in the tent separated by 2 weeks and harvesting every 2 weeks.  With the size of the RDWC system I can only fit 2 buckets into the tent.  I am thinking I will flower the NL as soon as possible and then place the rest of the plants in a separate vegging area.  The WW will likely be flower  a couple of weeks later.as soon as I have taken cuttings and determined it's sex.  Luckily the NL is a female based on preflowers.

The NL cuttings were taken on Jan 7th, they are doing well and today I spotted what appears to be roots, I tried to take a picture of them but unfortunately my camera ran out of battery power as I was attempting to get a better pic of what looks like roots.  There was a small amount of white fuzzy growth that showed up on the leaves the first day they were in the cloner, but I think that was due to having submerged them to make the cut.  It hasn't progressed.

    Garden looks sweet mate.

Two rooms is bare min to run a perpetual setup obviously but I think it will be even easier with a small 3rd mother/clone room. I've tried to get around it but it should just make things run so much smoother and allow more for setbacks and room to veg bigger plants.

That NL is ready to go too :smoke:

Still working on setting up a veg area. Cuttings now have the start of roots. The NL is going to be hard to control with the height I have to work with, I'd really like to let it grow natural as I haven't ever had a plant that wasn't trained in some way. I'm hoping she only doubles in height during the stretch.

Plants are really liking the system, the WW is growing at least an inch a day  It will be removed to the veg area as soon as I can get it set up. once that is done I'm flipping to flower.   There was a slight increase in ppm, I believe this is because my timer failed to turn on and the plants were in the dark most of the day, they drank but didn't eat.  The timer has been replaced.
