Root pruning

  1. Hey everyone, this may be a silly question but I want to do a sog style grow in small containers (16oz cups ) but I'm worried about the roots not having enough space.

From what I can tell I only need to prune the roots and re-plant them into new soil right?
What is the best way to prune the roots?

  2. you will get a pathetic harvest out of a solo cup whether you prune the roots or not..

i'd just do 12/12 from seed and take what you get.

  3. That's not what I asked

  4. Lol. I think he realizes this. But it is basically pointless to do that. You'll yield, what, maybe a 1/4 per plant if you're lucky? If you think that's worth the time and effort then have fun.

  5. Pruning roots is a terrible way to keep a plant healthy. Especially in a container so small and especially during flower.

I'm participating in my first solo cup challenge right now and i'm pretty confident I'm gonna kill that sucker when it hits flower time.

Can't hurt to try though. Good luck.

You are welcome to check out the solo comp, I myself get on average 7-14 grams per plant. When you have 20 of them it adds up to a decent yield in a small space such as a dresser or closet. Obviously more roots will be a bigger plant, but some people just like to push things to the limits.

My biggest plant from a solo was a Super Lemon Haze that yielded just under 21 grams and I had many issues with nute lockout and burning I'm sure I will top that one day soon; my biggest yielded this round was a jack Herer with 14.1grams of cure and I had to harvest 2 weeks early. my personal goal is to get an ounce of cured smoke from the right pheno this year. I've only had 4 harvests under my belt ever, I think that's a pretty attainable goal if I can reach 1/2-3/4 of it already

  7. Just pruned my plants 3-4 weeks into flower I plucked every 2 days so the plant wouldnt stress much. Any tips or suggestions?
