Losing my god damn mind you guys

Discussion in 'High Ideas' started by juanmoretime, Dec 10, 2014.

  1. I've been thinking about why we exist and why anything exists at all really. It's just a total mindfuck, why wasn't there nothing at all instead of our universe. Is there such a thing as a beginning and an end? The list goes on...

I have this theory that there have been multiple big bangs (possibly infinite). The universe has been expanding and contracting repeatedly for who knows how long. Each time there is a big bang a universe is created with different properties, laws, physics etc. But then there is the obvious question, "why?". What would be the point of a universe that expands and contracts?

Anyways I'm gonna go take another hit.

  3. The real question you should answer is why you're thinking about this so intensely and asking why on such a question. >:3

  4. Perhaps like a heart beat? The heart expands and contracts to distribute blood to all parts of the body. Maybe there is something the universe needs distributed to insure its continued existence.

  5. We will never figure out the answers to some questions because our mind cannot naturally handle it . Just like how weed helps us think differently, our mind has improved its thinking but our mind is limited.

This is why sometimes we shud focus on enjoying life then trying to figure it out.

Those are interesting questions, but I'm equally interested in cognition and consciousness. Why do we have experiences? How do we understanding the meaning of anything? It is one thing to perceive the world with the senses and move your body in the right ways to accomplish goals. But how do we get from perception, action, and decision-making on one hand, to conscious experiences and semantics on the other?

  7. I have spent many hours thinking about stuff like this and discussing with my close friends. Where I am now is that living and awareness is the point. Everyone finds their own reason for existence and lives by it. My belief is not religious but I figure if were alive we might as well enjoy it and continue to expand our minds until we can wrap our head around what the fuck this all is.

The full realization and acceptance of how the universe is, isn't easy. It's the acceptance that ones life is completely random. It has no purpose, no meaning. Without meaning, one may lose their mind. But this struggle of accepting the facts, leads to ones realization of their purpose. The struggle, strengthens the mind of the observer.

It's not easy, and it can get hard (feels like your losing your mind); but acceptance takes some time, and it does get better. One can only keep on learning and pondering.

  9. Been there, done that. it's a self defeating thought loop which will never provide a satisfactory answer.

  10. Big Ideas - the ones people (generally theoretical physicists) like to say are "hard to grasp" tend to be irrational notions that are hard to grasp because of the intangible nature of the perspective.  The singularity of a black hole or the crystalline structure of time - these big ideas tend to pull people away from the simple notions of reality.

I think the best thing you can do to understand what this is and what we are is to contemplate what the number 1 and 0 are.

  11. Hey dude :) I hope you post title isn't too literal. These concepts can get quite daunting over a lot to concentrated thought about it :p I've spent many a night laying in my bed clutching my head with the hope that it would cease from blowing!
I actually had that idea about 3 years ago in a science class (about the universe expanding and contracting) and it really is a fascinating notion. How there is no end, only a cycle. But when you draw a circle, your pen still has to start somewhere on the page, if you get my meaning. However, with my earthbound knowledge of the universe, I dare not theoreticise about what might've been everything before because that just blows my understanding of what anything at that moment in whatever might've been there before the universe.
Although, maybe these processes don't keep on going, maybe they only happen once where everything is born and everything dies and that is it. Or maybe there's something far more intelligent than us outside this universe and all this universe is is a single egg developing trillions of different species over billions of years :p And the powers on the other side have all been species that were once in a universe of their own.
I mean, we won't know the answer to this question in our lifetimes, that's why I don't have a set in stone belief about it (likewise with what happens when we die) which keeps me sane in all fairness :p If you have no belief in the unknown and unforeseeable, it really can drive you pretty mad.

  12. Never go into the universe thing while high. Just don't. Youll lose it bro.

  13. I tried to figure out math once on unmentionables. Oh christ almighty my god, talk about a mistake and then some. I really wish I would've kept all the shit I scribbled out though.

  14. The better question is what is out there In space? Does it ever end? If it does end what is "the end of space?

  15. When it comes to things like this. "why" is a stupid question because any possible answer can only come from a place of pure subjectivity. Just smoke some more and feel better haha

  16. I've thought long and hard about this and watched countless documentarys on the subject. The real question is where the hell are we ? We're nowhere , on a floating ball of rock flying around a ball of fire surrounded by balls of gas and other sediments , makes no sence and as for humans...its like the dust on you're floor suddenly gaining consciousness and questioning its existance.

Dont delve to deep though you're brain will most likely scramble if you ever even come close to realising what this whole situation is.

Before there was ANYTHING (There has to be a beginning to everything) no laws of physics existed, so really ANYTHING could of happened, literally anything. So I think it just so happens that this happened or 'spawned' because there was no laws of physics. And then we were bacteria (which also spawned) and then everything evolved...trees, plants, other animals, us etc. This evolving allowed us to exist since we can get all our needs from it, but you may think "well it's a coincidence that all that happened AND the sun was there (it wouldn't be possible without the sun) but if the sun wasn't there, something else would of evolve on this planet, you wouldn't be reading this now as a person because you wouldn't of evolved. Just my theory in a nutshell :)

  18. Evolved* too much effort editing on my phone

  19. Big bang theory suggests that the universe is still expanding from original big bang. There is a theory that it one day will stop and if it does, it might start rebounding back and destroy or eliminate everything that was created during its expanse. Hows that for a mind bend.

  20. It is not about you and me.. we are simple organisms that have evolved because we are able to and this is the law of nature.. survivor of the fittest, evolution, bla bla bla.. we would be self centered to think that the universe exists for our own existence, in one case. In the other case, we evolved with a brain.. it is a powerful organ that allows our emotions to interact with out environment making us personally attached to our surroundings and allowing us to question our existence and the reason for everything as if there is a specific reason for it.. but the reality is we just exist and that is all it is and that is all we know. Only because we use a certain minimal percentage of our brain.
