First Coco trial

  1. So I just finished putting together my setup, I have a 20 gallon recirculating res, 24/7 drip system, started them in rockwool and just put them in 2 gallon coco containers today, so my question is this... would it be best to have my drip going on the rockwool or straight to the coco as not to overwater the cubes? Next question is they only have the first leaves..is it too soon to start my drip or should I wait until there older and should I use nutes yet? Im not quite familiar on how much coco retains water... seems to flow just fine...  Thanks for the help I know its a newb question but I hate second guessing

  2. As long as your pots have drainage, and the plants are not sitting in standing water, you can water them as much as you want or let them dry out some. At that age though 1/4 strength nuts or less. Also coco sucks all the Mg out of your nutrients until it is "full" so either pretreat your coco with Mg or add extra for your first few waterings.

  3. I love coco. I wouldn't do the recirculating res though. If you want it optimal you should drain to waste and put your pump on a timer set to any number of watering per day I start with one and work my way up always keeping the coco saturated in fresh nutes for the plant to take up. All pump times will vary depending on setup and set. So you want to drip until you have 20% run off.

  4. Thanks for the info guys, I have been hearing that I shouldnt recirculate so I will do that, I just read about buffered coco before reading your replies so now my question is if I am running technaflora nutz would I need to add additional Mg than recommended, they are now 8 days old so I have a 1/4 mix watering once a day for 30mins at 6am and they seem to like it better than when I  was running 24/7 ... Any tips

  5. If its new fresh coco off a brick then my guess is yes add more Mg. I dont know about technaflora specifically, I use AN, and I found I needed to do this even though AN claims you dont need extra Mg with their base.

  6. I will be sure to keep an eye on them, I don't want to over use CALMAG Id rather have to add some later, my other question is if anyone has any opinion a couple nutrients I havent used before, I have botnicares Silica blast and ZHO ( Myco and other fungi ) I'm wondering if it would be good to use with a hydro setup? Bad to use with other nutrients? They sent me some samples of some Liquid Karma, Silica Blast, ZHO, and Power clone ( Which they say should be used with regular nutz in your res ) So Im thinking of trying some out but wanted some input

  7. I run the silica blast and liquid karma don't know about the others and a 30 min single drip would be better broken onto two 15 min drips.so they get fresh nutes all twice a day not once. Also 15 seems long bit I think I said earlier that the time depends on your setup but that just seems a bit long. Wait til.you see run Off and go 20% longer. Might be 15 min but I doubt it, the longest I have ever drip is six mins. Six times a day. Just my opinion

  8. Thanks Ganja I think the same thing, yesterday I calculated it and I am putting out 30 liters in 30 mins so its mostly waisting my res and I don't want to have to refill my res every few days. I am planning to tone it down to a few minutes per run and twice a day until they get bigger!

  9. That's a good plan I changed/ refill the res once a week I use over 65 gals a week. In my setup. With 18 plants in flower

  10. I am only into my 13th day in veg, but I'm wondering if there is a way to salvage some of the nutrients after I feed my plants it seems like a waist with such young plants, I know there not taking up too much right now, is it a bad idea to reuse until there a bit bigger or what.... Im going through nutrients like water and we know them aint cheap!

  11. Heres a quick shot of the ladies

  12. Lets try that again

  13. Ok so yesterday I had a good solid ph of 5.8-6.2 at a room temp of 74-77 and it got a bit cold last night, working on raising the temp but its currently at 66-68 and my res is cold as well, tested ph and I'm at like 7.0-7.3 , so should I wait until I get the temp up and then test and adjust or what, I'm currently adjusting with 1.6% sulfuric and the res has a bit of citric from a previous adjustment before I got the better stuff.... Any tips

  14. Also with coco is it a good idea to flush once a week or so with just adjusted H2O?

  15. No like once you flip the lights and before harvest I some do one when I switch additives. But deffenitly not every week. It's not necessary.

  16. Cool thanks for the tips man! There looking good! Ive been doing a ton of research online about PH down and am giving a try with 2% sulfuric and or 20% phosphoric acid ( what they use in GH ph down ) Citric acid just isn't stable and I can't keep adjusting because I know its not good for the plants... Any tips

  17. Honestly I think you know more about ph down then I do. I just use ph down. Until I get the right ph and it seems to stay for me also your nutes might not be very stable if your mixing brands and shit as well. Cns17 works great for me
