The cop who choked Eric Garner to death will not be indicted. This time there's actually a reason to be upset.

http://www.cnn.com/2014/12/03/justice/new-york-grand-jury-chokehold/

This incident is actually on video. There's not much to say, just click the link if you haven't already seen the video. He puts his hands up and even tries to tell them he can't breath.

CNN trying to fan the flames: "A New York grand jury declines to indict in the death of a black man who died after white police officer put him in a chokehold, officials say."

Edited with a slightly <del>better</del> more comical source.

2. CNN only showed the preceding argument.

Here's the real deal:

And I'm on the black dude's side in this one!

3. I'm paranoid so take with salt

I feel like someone with power stirring the pot so to speak.

Is there someone who stands to benefit from racism? Maybe more distractions from real issues

Yuri - I think you know how much of a skeptic I am of a lot of shit, but this one looks like the real deal to me.

I hope they release the evidence that the grand jury went on like they did in this last circus. If the riots were over this incident, I would understand. That Michael Brown deal wasn't even close.

On first sight of the video and listening to the conversation, I don't think the cops had a clue that the dude was gonna croak so murder is pretty much out. But he was asking them to leave him alone and stop touching him and calling them "officer" rather than "motherfucker". And from the victims words, it appears that they were harassing the guy. Even if he was resisting arrest, it's at least manslaughter, IMO.

5. The douche who choked him waved at the camera, too. He wasn't even concerned..

The cop definitely should be charged with something.

Garner wasn't even threatening them, he only reacted when they grabbed him, and even then he wasn't trying to hit or harm them. They probably could have talked him down, or handled it in a number of different ways. The Cop comes up from behind him and uses an illegal choke hold. No way he should get away from this.

I want to hear why the grand jury let him slide with nothing. To be fair, I don't know that anyone can say this was about race. I mean, if the dude had been white and saying and doing the same things as the black guy, they'd probably have done the same think. Like I said somewhere else, cops killed 356 whites in 2012 and 112 blacks. I'm sure a percentage, maybe a large one, was in reaction to what the victim said and did to the arresting officers. But I'm not going to dismiss this one as easy as I did the Michael Brown deal, even though I don't have a clue why they were fucking with him to begin with.

I'm open to all possibilities on this one, but from the video, I think the choking officer should've been tried for manslaughter, at least. It looked to me like the dude was trying to get them to stop choking him cause he couldn't breath - and the cop persisted.

I've been roughed up for absolutely nothing by arrogant fucking cops so I don't give them the benefit of any doubt. Some of them just like to assholes with people - black and white.

I agree it shouldn't be about race. I just thought it was funny how bad CNN is at hiding their intentions.

At the very least I would like to see that cop lose his job. There should be some angry, peaceful* protests after this. I guess it's better to wait for the jury's reasoning, though... But it's pretty clear what happened from that video.

As for why they were bothering him, it's because they believed he was illegally selling cigarettes.

Yep, I agree - it's expected that more whites would be killed than blacks by two to one. Maybe we should expect it to be an even higher ratio, given the ratio of white to black population  But, we also have to take into account the ratio of crimes committed and therefor the number of police calls and responses. I dunno. It's fucked up. My experience with cops hasn't been very friendly. And I'm white.

I'm curious why Eric Holder and his DOJ pounced on the Travon Martin and Michael Brown incidents, sending in hundreds of FBI agents to find some evidence of black on white hate crime, but apparently didn't bother with this one??? I mean, big ass Michael Brown robs a store, punches the store owner (robbey and assault, so far), then charges a cop like a football player, trying to get his gun - and they go after THAT cop. WTF???

This poor dude was pleading with them to ease up and stop fucking with him and they ignore him till he's dead - over selling some cigarettes! - and the DOJ is like, nah - we going after that other cop.

Shit makes no sense.

Whatever faith I had in our justice system died with Eric Garner. I can't believe how little people care about this when it's such a clear case of police brutality. Unless there's some unheard of piece of evidence, which seems unlikely, this grand jury has their heads up their asses.

13. There's such a double standard for cops.

Is there any chance you could choke hold a cop to death for any reason and getaway with it scot free?

Then people wonder why people don't like cops. The drug war, racial profiling, and legal immunity are three big reasons.

The system protects cops because the cops protect the system.

It's a symbiotic relationship that both sides implicitly understand.

I think every cop present on the video should be charged with assault at least, manslaughter preferably.  That big guy was hurting no one by selling cigs.  I bet some tobacco Nazi called the cops on him.

I don't think the choke hold had anything to do with the death.  The guy was talking after the cop let his neck go.  I think when they rolled him onto his stomach and pushed him down his big gut pressed up against his diaphragm preventing him from breathing.  He probably had Pickwickian syndrome because of his big gut anyway.  This doesn't excuse the cops in any way.

16. This is so fucked up. More attention needs to be brought to this case. I would hit the streets and protest right now if there was one.

Yes, the cop in this case should have been indicted.

Anybody still think that the jury system doesn't suck?

The other thing is, cops should be from the area that they are policing.  Cops in NYC used to be from here, now they can come from Jersey, Lung Eye-Land, or wherever, to work here, and about 50% do.

18. Garner embodied the true spirit of American he was an entrepreneur and like the founding fathers who dumped tea into Boston's harbor he refused to bow to the dictates of an immoral, unjust government.

I do want to say that the problem of the police state is not an African American problem its an American problem, it affects every one of us and every one of us need to take a stand.

I say we should all protest by selling  cigarettes on the street and donating the money to this guys family, I hope the people currently protesting don't riot that doesn't really hurt the government or the police in any meaningful way they are just going to make you pay for it, or some innocent guy and gal might lose their business or home.

To me it looks like he put him in a choke, then released him and the guy had an asthmatic attack or something and died. You can hear him wheezing after they let off his neck.

20. Still though any experienced grappler knows when to let go. It was excessive force at the least.
