Cfl poll big bulb vs little bulb

Discussion in 'Lighting' started by Team Imp, Dec 3, 2014.

  1. So for serious Cfl users what do you prefer. Small bulb setups with a bunch of Y splitters and 23 watt bulbs? Or big bulb setups 68-105 watt standard base bulbs?

This is not including Mogul based setups only Edison.

Please no Cfl haters :p just a opinion thread.

  2. i did 23 watt cfls 24 in y set ups. i ran in series connecting all positives black to black white to white ect and made a custom reflector and kept bulbs within 3 inches mostly within an inch of the buds. i did good 2 month veg and averaged 60 grams per plant
but, i think a dual spectrum hid 600 watter would do better

  3. I feel it depends what stage you are in, and I use both during veg and flower. I use the small 23 to get close and on the sides and bigger mogul base on the top. 200 watt and up put off some heat not advisable in the summer or warmer climates, it's hard to keep your temps under 80 at the canopy, it can be done but very tricky and lots of trial and error with fan setup and passive intakes placed at strategic spots. It's about 60* in basement at the moment and I have a 125 watt mogul base in a reflector 3 to 4" away from 8 sprouts and it is only 66* between the tops of them and the bulb, if it was 75* it my basement it would be more like 85* between the tops and bulb.

  4. I grew this auto under 4 26w cfl's and a "custom" reflector that I made from a dollar store disposable aluminum roasting pan (I just cut a hole in it, lol).

    It's 4 bulbs, 3 splitters and a power cord.

  5. i have a total of 14 small cfls, 4 14w bulbs 4 25w bulbs and 6 23w bulbs, 23w are 6500k and rest are 5000k, total of 270 w and 16750L, its vegging my babies beautifully! and very low heat.

  6. I run about 12-15 23-40 watt lights all around my plant in my tent and get very good results.
