And still not hungry. Anyways I've been able to drop from 170-175 to 160 relatively easily and quickly by fasting for 24-36 hours off an on, but I kept falling back and would binge eat a large portion, then try to go without food for another hopefully 48 hours, etc

Now I have gotten on my best streak which is 48 hours without a meal. Drinking plenty of water. Been drinking coffee when I wake up with two spoons of sugar, and a cup or two of decaff after it, which I feel is holding me back.

The mental cravings from habitually eating and being in a constantly- fed state are very real and make me fail my goals consistently, but this time I think I'll get to where I want to be.

Just to clear it up, what I am trying to do and have been trying to do, is to get out of the "constantly fed" mode, i.e give my body the ability to burn through excess stores, and revert to eating on states of "true hunger" instead of "habitual hunger." Habitual hunger is where your body doesn't actually need nutrients, you eat out of habit, and creates excess stores of byproducts. Intermittent fasting allows the body to work through stored excesses of nutrients and by products that accumulate from eating too much too frequently. Ultimately what fasting accomplishes is losing body fat and ridding the body of stored impurities, allowing for a healthier immune system and body in general. Since your body is not constantly digesting something, or allocating stores of energy since it doesn't need what you ate, the body will be able to fight infections easier, and have more energy.

I've done my reading and I'm perfectly safe fasting like this. After 48-72 hours of no food going into the body, the body enters "ketosis" where your body fat becomes the primary source of fuel for the body. Basically a fat burning mode. After your body goes through ketosis, THEN you will experience "true hunger" and if you ignore "true hunger," you will begin starvation, in which your body turns to muscle mass for fuel..

What I'm trying to do is get my body through the entire stage of ketosis to get rid of all that excess fat "waste" and experience true hunger again, to regulate my weight and my health. Upon experiencing true hunger, it's reported that much smaller portions will satisfy you, and you won't need to eat as often, aiding the body.  Maybe I'll keep this post as a journal since it's starting on a good note of 48 hrs.

  2. I want to go across the street to Hardees and pick up a breakfast sandwich, but I know I don't need it and it would only contribute to the store of excess byproducts that I am trying to burn through. So tempting though.

When I'm actually truly hungry whatever I eat will taste so damn good.

  3. you could easily enter ketosis if you don't eat any carbs for 2 days.
eat only proteins (i.e. atkins diet).

the whole principle is based on forcing the body into ketosis.

the fact that you are eating 8+ grams of sugar is pretty bad, because you are doing exactly the opposite of what the fast is supposed to accomplish.

although there might be some benefit to doing a fast for 48 hrs.. not really sure there would be any if you are drinking coffee and sugar.

i'd say tea without sugar, if anything.

A gram of sugar per spoon? If so then it's max 6 grams, more usually 2-4 i.e 1-2 cups of coffee. But yeah I know sugar/carbs is the exact thing that keeps the body out of ketosis lol.

To report, I caved. Had some delicious spicy green peppers in the fridge just waiting to go bad, so I figured they would be amazing on a chicken fillet biscuit with egg and cheese, a medium hash brown, and orange juice. It was delicious. But I don't feel like it contributed all too much to excess body allocation. Recorded my time of eating and am ready to go for another 48+.

  5. why don't you just eat avocado + eggs for breakfast.

spinach + grilled chicken (only olive oil for dressing) for lunch

and fish for dinnner... or try to fast until morning and eat just a handful of nuts and drink lots of water.

you'll be in ketosis and probably not fighting hungr every second of the day.

    (no sugar!)

  6. Awesome! I fast once a while and I did roughly 4 days only water, soup and juice prior and finishing the fast.

I do fasting to detox, so zero protein and sugar is allowed on my fasts. Only water.

    @well highdrated

Can you list more foods that will allow me to enter ketosis? Do vegetables fit the bill? Also, idk if I can give up my morning coffee, lol.

  8.
basically what i list are foods that have 0 carbs and are high protein and healthy fats.
this is the basic principal of forcing your body into ketosis (it is also what atkins and other low-carb diets are based on).

it's relatively easy to find low carb foods... but green leafy vegetables are great (spinach, kale) .. you get about 1g of fiber.
most veggies are low in carbs, so you are pretty safe.

with all that said, if your goal is to lose weight. i would really recommend a "slow carb" approach recommended by tim ferris. that and supplementing with cla and possibly look into adding pagg stack (it's expensive... so you know, do your research).

also don't give up on you coffee.. but you might want to modify it a little:
    http://authoritynutrition.com/3-reasons-why-bulletproof-coffee-is-a-bad-idea/

i purposely gave you that article, because the whole "bulletproof" thing is likely a marketing gimick.. but where i disagree is the title.. it's not a bad idea. and they kind of contradict themselves in the article. it's good unbiased view of how to improve your coffee... i personally know a few people who prefer it.  (but you can google it for yourself).

    cheers

  9. Low carb for too long is a great way get a screwed up metabolism and hypothyroidism.

  10.
    care to explain a little?

perhaps you are referring to those who are doing low-carb completely wrong? (i.e. not eating veggies).
i think this is the biggest mistake low-carb dieters make... and partially "low carb" experts are to blame.

cutting out sugars is very good for you, but eating a pound of bacon for breakfast with eggs and mayo for years, is not all that great either.

i recommended "SLOW carb" diet (originated by tim ferris). it is much more reasonable than most "low carb diets"

the basic premise: eat everything expect white-colored foods (white bread, rice, pasta, flour-based products, sugars, etc.) .. some fish and cauliflower is an obvious exception. eat more veggies more legumes and nuts. 1 cheat day per week.

  11. keep it up

Given the reason behind this diet, wouldn't the "warrior diet" accomplish this in a similar way?

I've heard skipping breakfast and.lunch and eating only.one meal, combined with fasting once in a while, is supposedly the most "natural" diet

They take paleo to the next level. Warrior diet is like paleo diet but with some fasting aspects

I've always thought breakfast was weird.

What animals in the wild eat breakfast?

Well. We have herbivores. They pretty much wake up and start munching grass till bed time.

Omnivores. Same deal but also spend the morning scavenging.

Carnivores. Need to hunt before eating.

Seems like if you base us on our relatives diets, we should eat only greens in the morning, then have a late meal after we've worked (modern equivelent of hunting or scavenging)

  13. Holy cow dude good job! If I don't eat something in the first 15 minutes of getting up i start feeling funky, and if i eat more then an hour later I feel kind of out of it all day

  14. Any tips for first time fast?
    I'm curious

Think it would help my stomach pain and body ache and sickness

  15. The idea that fasting could somehow be beneficial is simply not supported by medical science. Your body needs food. Period. So eat.

  16. I believe binging after a fast is damaging to your body. You want to ease into heavy foods after your stomach has been giving itself acid baths... I'll link here if I can find the study

  17. I just wanted to let you know, I'm sober, and when I first saw the title I though it said Hour 48 of Fisting... So I came over to tell you to stop before you prolapse yopur anus.....
But all is cool. Carry on, and good luck. Getting ready to start a fAst myself.

Please note that true ketosis is usually only attained after multiple days of starvation. Anything before that isn't true ketosis; your body simply uses ketones immediately for lipid synthesis.

I don't believe ketosis is something you should ever force yourself into. The only way to attain true ketosis is to starve yourself completely, which is incredibly unhealthy. Before a body enters ketosis, it goes through a phase where it metabolizes glucose from non-carbohydrate sources. Which of course kind of ruins the whole idea behind forced ketosis.

It's your bodies panic mode, and it's there for a reason.

Yeah, you are misinformed. Ketosis does not happen after starvation, if happens before starvation. After you stop eating for about 72 hours, your body will start to enter ketosis. After ketosis has been exausted, maybe up to a week of not eating, THEN your body will begin starvation.

Also, yes, the ketosis that your body goes into after about 72 hours of not eating is "true" ketosis. Fat cells are broken down into ketones and used as the bodies fuel.
