I tend to write books when I type, so I will keep this short.

    cab.  32w, 16d, 36 tall.
    light- 6 23 watt 6500
soil  jiffy seed starting mix, I don't think much if any nutes in the soil
    3 starts.  white widow
                   OG berry kush
                    Greenhouse cheese :(  dead

two still alive...  Still hope, LOL...  Here comes the story.

I sprouted the three seeds in paper towel method, no problems...  All 3 sprouted after 2nd day.  Drilled 4 small holes in solo cups.  about an 1/8inch.  Filled them up, planted sprout down(I know, up down, etc)...Added water.  I know, should have we the soil first.  Big problems, I didn't know it but you have to wet this soil first, or its a pain in the butt...  I already had a mess...  First one, cheese, I mushed around with my fingers and made mud, thought it would be ok..  Then changed my mind on the other two.  So I tried to dig the seeds up, major problem, could not find them.  I ended up using a strainer and hose to get rid of dirt and mud to find the seeds.  Now they are mixed up, don't know which is which.  But I don't care at this point.

I dumped the soil, and added some water.  Mashed it all up until it was all soaked in, I didn't think too wet, but maybe.

Filled the cups, added seeds, turned the lights on.  Checked them every 45 minutes for 2 days... LOL...  All three popped same day.  Cheese started out bad, didn't want to open all the way.  I thought she would pull through, but she died.  I think too wet....

Other two looked good.  One as you can see is not opening the round leaves all the way...

Only problem now.  The tips of the leaves are burned a little bit.  I added a little water, soil seemed like it was getting dry....  That was yesterday.  Today, I lowered the shelf 2 inches thinking maybe the lights were burning it.  Also added a thermometer.  The temp is not correct, I had just took it out of the truck and hung it...  Im sure its way warmer in there.  Close to 80.  At the same time I added the fan.

I don't want the kids to die on my first attempt....  Please help.

You will also see I don't have any incoming or exhaust fans.  I got 2 120 mm fans.   Putting them in tomorrow....

I did not PH the water.  I had a bottle of distilled.  I have not added any nutes or anything....

What should I do?  Wait it out and leave them alone for a while ? :)

Oh, I guessed my holes in cup where not big enough.  Used my knife to cut more, and bigger holes...

Oh, I keep editing.  I know I need more lights, and I got some more splitters and bendy ones so move light around....  I have a bunch of 18 watt 6500s, probably going to add 4 or 6 of those....  Unless you think I should just run 6, then add more light when I flower....

  2. I had a few beers, forgot to add the pics.  LOL

  3. im no expert grower, but from what ive read .. it seems could be 2 things here.

    1. heat, from your setup it looks like its not too near. seems alright.

    2. nutrient burn but its also a starter seed mix, doubt there will be that much nutes to cause burn

try putting it further from the cfl for a while and see if things change. until a advanced grower chimes in.

  4. Thanks for the reply... I did move it down probably three inches or so. You can see the other brackets in the pic. I didn't think that jiffy mix had any nutes. I think it had to be heat... anyone else?

  5. Bump. Where are the experts?

  6. Nice box! Looks like a clean build for what you have so far. I like the rails.  You mentioned you are adding fans soon, make sure u do that asap. How hot did the box get when it was sealed up? Cfls can get a small space really hot. Heat was likely the culprit. Also, with your young plants you shouldn't need to add water for about 5-6 days from being placed in the soil. Let that soil go dryish before you water again.

  7. Oooh and also a couple other things.
    1) Make the most of your fans and run them both as exhaust fans
    2) take out the  2 bulbs on the left. You dont need them yet. U will once your plants are a bit bigger.
    3) move your plants to the right side of your grow box evenly under your light fixtures(move fan to left side).
    4) this should help temps out a lot and allow you to raise your plants back closer to your lights

Good luck with your grow man!
Oh and I killed my first 3 plants before figuring out what works for me. So dont feel bad

Ok, thank you so much for the response...

So first off, thanks for the compliment on the workmanship of my box.  I will take a full pic so you can see the whole thing.

You asked how hot the box was when sealed.  I opened it today, and it was 79 degrees...  I thought that was actually ok....  The door isn't sealed all the way yet, I just got my latches in the mail....  So It may get hotter once door is sealed tight.  But is 79 too hot, and would it cause this?

I understand what you are saying about removing the two left lights, and I will do that tonight.  I had considered it, but now that someone else is saying it I will do it for sure.

I still feel like I should water a little every few days, it seems pretty dry.  But if you are telling me this, I will put a lot of weight into what you are saying.  Last water was day before yesterday I think.  I have only watered the one time after they sprouted.  And it wasn't very much.  I read lots about not over watering... I'm going to check on them soon, and see any progress.  Maybe snap a few more pics.

My main question is why would I want both fans to be exhaust fans?  How will fresh air get in???  Probably a total noob question, but I have to ask...

Plans came up today, so I didn't get my fans installed, but I got all the stuff.  So tomorrow they will be in.  Please let me know about the fans.  Because I was going to have an intake at the bottom, and exhaust with home made carbon filter at the top....

Thank you for your help...  I know I will need more :)

  9. Cut a 3rd hole for a "passive" intake. Trust me moving more air out is easier than moving air in. The best way for me to figure out watering is by picking up your pot/cup. You will notice the difference.
Well I hope u see some improvement with the new leaves. They should come quick

  10. Dont love them to death, you are the biggest factor for the plants. Lights are on, they have a little water then just leave them alone.

There's your expert advice, you will do fine, relax and let them grow.

  11. So I would need two carbon filters then?

  12.
your plants are tiny, you dont need any carbon filters at this point.

  13. LOL, I know, I know...  Cut me some slack, its my first grow, LOL...Im like a new papa...  Im trying not to check on them every few hours....  The waiting is the hardest part right now....

Have you ever used that Jiffy seed starter?  I know Im not close to adding any nutes, but how will I know when to start?  I know to start slow.  And if the tips start to burn I used too much.  But when do I start?  I don't think that jiffy has any nutes at all...

  14. Oh, I know....  Im talking about when I start to flower and they get super dank and dripping with resin, and super skunky :)  I was just going to get everything ready for that time...

  15.
Oh that fucking seed starting mix,, dont use it.
Seed starting mix is garbage, iv grown for 30 years and my seedling would look like shit too. Use plain jane potting mix.
I tried some summer before last and it was terrible.

Also cannabis is not a heavy feeder, you will not have to feed them very heavy to get nice fat buds.

    here is my Christmas crop.

  16. Or run a Y off your carbon filter, im assumimg your gonna do a diy, and run to each fan.

  17. I was worried about burning the plants.  So I thought I could use the jiffy seed starter, and then transfer to Vermifire...  Here is the link to what I got ....
    http://www.vermicrop.com/vermifire

Its organic, and I thought it would be a good choice.  I know you guys don't like MG and stuff like that....  I got some organic nutes, botanicare I think.  Veg, bloom, and something else.  I was kinda flying by the seat of my pants at the store.  LOL.  When I bought the Vermifire, I was going to plant directly into that.  And the guy at the grow shop said it would "probably" be ok.  But It might burn them...  I try and read and read, and condense everything into the correct answer.

  18. Ya, the Y makes sense.  I had not planned on running two output fans.  I figured with my small box, one 120mm fan in, one out would be fine...  Then I was going to do a diy filter for the output.  Both facing out the back, output one up high to get rid of heat and input at bottom.  And put speaker grills on the outside to cover holes.

  19. Snoop, NICE looking plants, and nice setup too...  I don't think I will ever be of your caliber, but if I could get a few 1/8ths off this first grow I would be happy....  LOL

  20. Thought I would post an update....  So the two plants are still alive, but weird looking.  The leaves are all twisted up, and growth seems stunted.  Again, the first two are in Jiffy seed starter, with no nutes.  And I have not given them any nutes, just distilled water.  I have been letting the soil dry out between waterings, and using a moisture meter that I picked up.  The 3rd plant is a lemon haze that popped about 3 days ago.  The first two are maybe 9 days since pop from soil.  The Lemon haze got planted in some organic soil that I got from home depot, and its doing way better than the other two did at 3 days old....  If anyone has any suggestions Im all ears.  Do the first two need nutes yet?  The soil they are in has none from what I can tell....  I took a full pic of the cabinet.  The wires look like shit because Im waiting for my fan controller to show up.  Then I will pretty the wires up.  I got the intake and exahaust fan going, temps are staying around 73-77.....
