This night reminds me that humans are nothing more than a bunch of capitalistic apes. People are so fucking brainwashed into taking advantage of sales. We're like moths flying into a fucking blacklight, except the blacklight is market sales and the moths are humans. And then they get aggressive and territorial when resources are scarce - which they are by design. Haven't we evolved past this sort of behavior yet? Come on, humans. Overcome your ape ancestry, and allow yourself to become a more-evolved creature that is aware of the interconnectedness of all life and being.

A few decades ago it wasn't like this at all, but it has gradually devolved into the insanity we have today. IMO, it is a result of an over-materialistic society, which is a result of American life being too cushy. Basic survival items are not a worry anymore so people take them for granted. I'm talking about water, food, clothing, and shelter, the lack of which Americans can't really comprehend. It is also a natural progression of societies, and I see it as yet another symptom of the fall of Western Civilization. Nothing is forever, civilizations come and go. The West has had its heyday. It is starting to feed on itself. I do not see this as anybody or anything's fault, nor do I believe there is anything anyone can do to stop it.
I've seen the Black Friday madness escalate immensely in just my quarter century. It still blows my mind that there are Thanksgiving day sales now, people can't even pretend to be thankful for what they have for the whole fucking day anymore A lot more places are open on Thanksgiving now, mostly stores, restaurants, etc. Which IMO, really sucks for the workers. I work on holidays, but I'm a paramedic, so it's to be expected. There's no good reason Best Buy and Wal-Mart can't close up shop for a day. But then again, the people making those decisions almost certainly won't be working on Thanksgiving themselves. Oh well, hope the retail workers are at least having holiday pay thrown their way for the bullshit they have to deal with.... As online shopping got more popular, I expected the madness to lessen, or at least drop off. But no. Eh, I'll stick with buying what I can online. It might be a tad bit more, but it's worth the gas and sanity I save by avoiding Black Friday. And the weekend after. Or the whole damn Christmas shopping season. Being in huge crowds can be mentally exhausting to me at times. And while some of the sales are pretty good, how great are most of these 'Black Friday savings' really?
