Cannabis cooking oil; weed ratio

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by Caswyck, Nov 26, 2014.

  1. So I want to start making edibles, i've been smoking for years and I know about strains and potency and all lat. I want to make oil so i could use it in any recipe that I want. I want to know how much weed should I use if I want to create about 2 cups of cannaoil. the strain is Girl scout so it's fairly potent and anyone who is going to be consuming them has a medium to low tolerance. Just a heads-up I DO NOT want to use an entire ounce just to make 2 cups of oil. Girl scout cookies have an avg. thc content rating 18% so its pretty potent compared to other sativas. With that being said if anyone has some insight to this that would be great.  :smoke:

  2. Well when I make oil I never use measuring utensils, always eyeball it lol.  That being said I don't know what 2 cups of oil looks like, but, put your oil into a slow cooker or whatever you are using, and add as much bud as possible.  Make sure the bud is fully submerged in the oil and stir often.  Cook on low temp for as long as possible, I usually aim for 4 hours minimum.  Strain out bud and either store or use immediately.

You could also store the bud in the oil after being cooked, for a few days in the fridge then strain after...this may or may not increase potency.  Also look into soy lecithin.

  3. Welcome to the forums! Curious if you have read any of the "sticky" threads, such as the BadKat tutorial? All the information you need is already there. :)

To answer your question: it is completely irrelevant how much herb you use per cup of oil! The important statistic is, how much herb per edible dose?

A good rule of thumb is, the amount you would smoke in 1 session is a safe starting point to experiment with edibles. So if you typically smoke 0.1g per session, then you'd want to use 0.1g of herb per cookie/brownie/dose. :)

If math is not your strong suit, then the old stoner guideline is "1/4 ounce per tray of brownies." If your brownie recipe calls for 1/4 cup oil, then you'd want to use 1 oz herb per cup of oil, or if your brownies need 1/2 cup oil, then you'd want to use 1oz/2 cups. (But that is if you want to make some random old stoner dose, as opposed to what YOU actually need for YOUR tolerance! ;))
