Fergeson verdict

  1. Symbolically, such a guilty verdict could have been a start. In a society where many black Americans who have too keen an awareness of the history of racism, the “natural order of things” is, I suspect, precisely what many of us hoped to see overturned through an indictment - and possibly a guilty verdict in a trial for Darren Wilson. That “natural order of things” is the continued foundation of unjust economic rules, systemic racism, white supremacy. Yet, it is obscured under the universal, race-neutral promise of “equality and freedom for all,” distracting us from the racial bias that grounds “reasonable standards,” where standards are reasonable only for those who stand on the side of white supremacy, land and profit. Similarly, justice is thought to be the outcome of “due process,” in which process is only afforded to those who can afford the dues.

Oh, those poor black people. We gave them all of Detroit. Look at what they did to it. We gave them all of Atlanta. I wouldn't even drive through there. We gave them all of Harlem. Forget about it !! Two wrongs don't make a right. Rioting and burning down buildings isn't going to solve a damned thing. If anything, it's just going to bring us closer to Martial Law.
And another thing. It all boils down to actions and consequences. In this day and age, the most ruthless gang to be leery of is the police (sad but true). If you're a parent that cares about your kids, you'll teach them to never put themselves in a situation that warrants police contact. Stealing is one of those situations. When I was younger, I would never have stolen something to "look cool and hard" and I sure as Hell wouldn't have shoved a store owner or store employee and threatened to punch them as I walk out with my stolen merchandise.
Parents nowadays aren't raising well mannered children, they are raising savage beasts with no respect for others or other's property. Actions and consequences. What got the police called there in the first place ? Shoplifting and assault on the store owner. No theft, no police interaction. Raise your kids the correct way and chances are they'll live to be a ripe old age. It's as simple as that.

  4. Peaceful protest is part of the U.S. Constitution, but violent protest should be intolerable because it does no good. Media perpetuates stereotypes, too, which creates a misinformed nation because many people are inherently stupid.

This ridiculous "verdict" does nothing but reinforce the belief (real or not) that there is no justice for a black man in the US.

There should have been a trial where by a full and frank investigation of the events could have been played out for all to see...

  6. So should that be standard operating procedure for police shootings or just this one?

  7. Apparently he had a graze wound on this thumb. That's a very unlikely wound, unless he was grabbing for the officer's gun and had his hand on the barrel when it was fired.

If you grab for a cop's gun, shit, anyone's gun, what do you expect is going to happen?

  8. A cop is a servant of the state. There duty is to protect and serve the people.

There should be a thorough and open investigation anyone a cop shoots a citizen. That is a no brainer.

Cops are servants of the people and need to be accountable to the people.

  9. Not true. It's about being fair for both citizens and the police. There is no due process if the accused is not granted the same rights as that of the victim. The accused has the right to defend himself in a court of law when unjustly accused of murder and not self-defense. I urge you to actually read the evidence released and not go off of emotional and irrationality.

  10.
The case was before a grand jury for 3 months man, that seems pretty thorough. Just because there wasn't a criminal trial doesn't mean there wasn't investigation, or due process.

How would you think the kid got a graze wound on his thumb?

  11. "The first wound was in the right hand and occurred at the patrol car as confirmed by skin tissue found on the car. It was the only close wound. The bullet entered the palm of the right hand at the base of the thumb and proceeded tangentially through skin and soft tissues for a distance of two inches exiting near to the wrist. Police photographs taken before the first autopsy show black soot on skin and the microscopic sections show gunshot particulate matter under the skin that indicate that the gun was within inches of the hand when discharged. The other gunshot wounds show no such discharge residues.

  13. He might have been having a little tug of his Mickey and got his thumb stuck in his fly ? Who knows ?

The grand jury investigation has done Jack shit to reassure the public that the cop acted within the law. To quell tensions the only action to be taken is a public trial.

I live in Ireland and even I know your cops are trigger happy. When I have been in the states my biggest fear has always been your cops.
If I don't trust them how can anyone else be expected to ?

  14. Smokin, please at least review the evidence for yourself instead of using social and mainstream media coverage to come to your conclusions.

  15. I have read the reports regarding his thumb and gunshot residue etc but it all means Jack shit without a public court case.

If cops knew they would be held accountable for their actions they would be a lot slower to act like Wild West gunslingers.

  16. The grand jury has released all information thus making it a public court case. They're not withholding the information. This is an example of "you're damned if you do, damned if you don't." If you can't trust the police, what makes you believe the people who have an extremely biased view? People will lie to support agendas, I know you know this smokin. Cops are held accountable. You just don't hear about all of the cases because they aren't national headlines nor should they be.

I suggest you read all of the reports, not just bits and pieces. You can't reads parts of the evidence and come to a conclusion. That's being irresponsible.

  17. I know what you are saying Twisted and you are right. I have not read all of the evidence. :)

Will have a read through later.
