I want a tattoo that has meaning, not just something that looks "cool" because in 10 years i dont want to start regretting it. What are some things to get tattos over. Like good reasons/meanings? Example: like how people get tats over sobriety and stuff. Think before you do!

There is no "Good" reason really for a tattoo...It is completely dependent on the person...A tattoo that may look stupid to someone, may have an extremely deep meaning to the person who the tattoo is on...They are really personal things, so it is up to the person who has the tattoo to decide if it is a good reason or not, other people can't really have a say in it. I have tattoos ranging from my love of snowboarding, a loved one passing and a large one devoted to going through hard times and just loving what they represent (I got a Koi swimming Downstream)..Some people have told me it is stupid and doesn't make sense, but again, they really don't have a say in the matter because I know it is important to me.

99.99% of tattoos look like crap and have little to no meaning. Every dick with $50 has a tattoo nowadays. What the fuck is so cool about it? Only get one when you're completely sure of it.

well once ya figure it out, wait a bit. not every idea is a good idea for long. go to a reputable artist in your area, shoot the breeze with him and you two will come up with an idea and maybe even a rough sketch to go by
i got my full back piece started. i am about 16 hours into it. all of the line work is done and now it is all about finishing up the color. it is an under sea picture that my tatt guy put together for me. i have a huge sea turtle, a huge octopus, some cuddle fish and some other fish kind of fading into the back ground. it also has a huge coral reef area as the back drop. the final touch will be the mermaid on my upper left shoulder. i got this tattoo because of all the damn crazy shit i had to do to get my VA disability shit handled finally. every bit of the tattoo was well planed and well thought out. the thing i regret is starting this with out knowing how bad a tattoo fucking hurts, like when you get that needle buzzing on your vertebra. you might get a smaller one on your arm or leg, just to see how you can handle it. last thing you want is a half assed, half finished tattoo that you are never going to finish because you cant handle the pain. it is cool to be apart of the club that sports high quality custom tattoo work. there is a definite difference between the 200$ prefabbed tatt and something of quality. be sure you investigate your tattoo artist as well. just because someone says they can do something doesn't mean they actually can and the last thing you want is having to wear proof of that concept for any length of time. i love my tatt and i am definitely getting more...fuck yeah!
I had a tattoo that my buddy did (we were about 16) and we had this ghetto homemade tattoo gun, anyways i had a mushie on my left side rib cage (looked just horrible) but after a year it fadded away, i just have like a tiny little dot there now. Think before you do!
A lot of Japanese style tattoos have cool designs and meanings. ex. the coy fish is a symbol of success and accomplishment, a dragon is a symbol of wisdom and knowledge. Try looking up native American symbols too, there are some cool ones like the thunderbird which is an omen of war, or an eagle meaning wisdom and strength.
