Could I put sprouted seeds in my EZ Cloner?

  1. OK, here is my problem. I normally sprout my seeds in a paper towel, put them in rockwool, and when they are big enough they go straight into 5 gallon buckets filled with hydroton in my ebb and flow system. I sprouted a half dozen seeds two days ago. Today I was getting ready to transplant them and discovered my rockwool smashed and ruined. I have been unable to find any locally due to the time of year, and getting some off the internet will take a week.

So, I'm thinking about putting the sprouts into 1.5" net baskets filled with hydroton and putting them in my aero cloner. Has anybody tried this? Problems or pitfalls?

OK, I did it about a week ago. I had two seeds sprouted that I put in baskets and covered with hydroton. I accidentally broke one of the sprouts (both seeds had already extended their cotyledons, because I took too long waiting on rockwool). I still put it in the basket. I then set the clone to spray once an hour during the lights on period. Both seedlings have extended their second set of leaves and look to be doing very well. So yes, you can do this!

Hey just tidying up for 2014......yes you can as you already know. I pop 'em in a paper towel then transplant them to Grodan 2' cut plugs and put the plugs into a 2" net pot. The Gordan cut plugs work well (they're rockwool) because they absorb and hold the nutrients. Otherwise I'd use SuretoGrow cut plugs.

I've also raised an Afghan Kush from seed in my Aeroflo 60 using the same method but very early in the light cycle due to the nute strength.
