"I'm all in favor of abolishing the Greek System all together. I received a bid to Phi Delta Theta as a freshman and I accepted. However, I quickly dropped them after going to a few functions and seeing the way my brothers treated non-Greeks. They treated the non-Greek men like scum and kicked them out of all-campus parties and encouraged non-Greek women to continue drinking when it was clear to me, even as a rather naive freshman, that these women were far past their limit and needed to stop drinking. When I raised these behavioral concerns with the president, he told me that I would regret ever saying anything if I brought up the issue with anybody again. I promptly dropped out and became independent. The administration refuses to do anything about the maltreatment of other people (especially GDI's) by Greek members. Sorority members don't really initiate sexual assault on others, but they do bully GDI women a horrific amount and it makes me sick. And when GDI's raise concerns about systematic problems of Greek life, Greeks quickly jump on them and declare that since independents have never been in a Greek organization, they can't possibly understand all the good that Greek life does. I'll tell you what, I've seen the "good" that Greek Life does. Community service? That can be accomplished without Greek life. Brotherhood/Sisterhood? Uh more like exclusive elitism disguised as friendships. Really, why is this shit still tolerated on school campuses? Get rid of these organizations that breed countless problems."

    what do you think?

  2. Frats and sororities: Gangs.

It's bullshit, to subject people to torture just to get a scholarship? No wonder our country went to shit lol

  3. Get rid of all the fraternities/sororities and replace them with weed frats/sororities. Expel everyone that possesses alcohol, enact mandatory weed consumption. Sexual assaults would be a thing of the past.

  4. Alumni and school officials have too much invested in permeating their culture of elitism
Remove these societies and they will find another means to tempt youths with prestige

  5. Fraternities and Soroities are not based on anything but initiation rituals and separatism which tends to lead to elitism.

Their alumni are bonded by hazing so bad, they were traumatized into an abstract form of Stockholm syndrome, with their participating classmates as partners to the subjugation of these horrors. Granted, it seems to have gotten better in the last few years, with 'hazing initiatives' by the Government. But that has since quieted down, and who knows how much it's really even helped. When the pot appears that shiny from years of conditioning by your 'Greek' parents, it's easy to take a quiet beating. Ostracism is no joke to a teenager.

When you try to determine what exactly such an organization offers you in the end, it ends up being status, strong but unhealthy relationships, and connections. Good for business, bad for self-improvement.

Not to mention you'll end up being the one torturing people the same way you were, making you feel the same way as you did during that time. Makes you feel powerful, like you're getting revenge for being dealt that punishment. But the need for that doesn't go away, and trickles over into the rest of your life and future....

  6. Simple answer too a stupid question: No.

  7. Idk, I know nothing about greek.

You are cool though, Renee. Don't listen to them haters ;)

  8. I think the UK has a far better system. Societies are based on mutual interests e.g. Rugby, beer pong etc. Social events and parties are usually held in bars, pubs and clubs so it is a lot harder for completely out of order behaviour to happen, as there are things like bar staff, security/bouncers and the general public around. It's not perfect but at least potentially vulnerable 18 year olds getting drunk away from home are still under adult supervision.

  9. Yes. They're full of shitcunts.

  13. I've read this article.......it sucks but most colleges look out for it reputation than the individual. :/

  14. I dont understand this fraternity/sorority shit.

Its like high school bullshit but on a grander scale. What do they accomplish? Why were they started? Whats the point of their existence? It sounds like a major distraction when it comes to education.

Just came up with a conspiracy theory: maybe universities (which rape you financially) realize that fraternities/sororities are huge distractions that will cause many students to fail. Which in turn would get more money out of them because theyd have to retake classes. Its all a plot to extort more money out of students.

I go to a community college. People behave civilly. No distractions. Go to school, go back to work/homework/life.

Ill be going to a university next semester and i wish a frat boy would have the marbles to start some funny business with me around.

  15. Frats are dirty. Plus they'll kick you out of a party if you're not in a frat. Frat guys are also douche bags.

Never been to a sorority so idk if they're usually dirty (probably not). Sorority girls are usually sluts. Sluts are dirty.

Both are dirty. I don't like dirty places.

  16. I wandered into a sorority party once.. it was interesting. I lied and said I was a freshman there and then the one girl was like "fresh meat!" and cupped my balls. Then a line formed of about 9-10 girls and they all scooped my nuts.. it was like a hazing, but with as drunk and half assed as it was, think it was a spur of the moment thing.

  17. Paying for friends. Cool.

I think you should allow human nature to be explored fully.

I don't like frats but there are plenty of people who do. Those people should be allowed to follow that path if they so choose just as I can choose my own path.

If something frats do is harmful then that specific action should be made illegal, not the frat itself.

Shouldn't be banned just more regulated. Force them have events/mixers at public places instead of the their privately owned Greek houses (not all schools have them). Never was apart of a fraternity but I heard rumors and horror stories on multiple campuses in many of states. I know of a frat house that a student body collectively calls the "rape shack."

Been to Greek life parties some were cool some were lame and filled with douchebags. Guess it depends on the fraternity and university you attend.
