Can One Be Religious...

1. ...but not have a religion?

I was brought up in a pretty religious household so I do have certain beliefs, but I hate the fact that in order for you to be considered religious you have to be committed to a single faith.

Is it wrong for me to say that?

Can I not be religious and take things from different faiths? Must I be committed to one only?

2. I believe in reincarnation, karma, and animals having souls/spirits, as well as humans. I also have some beliefs that're vaguely druid-like, but yer. You can believe whatever the fuck you wanna believe, dude. That's the one good thing about religion that I enjoy. <3

3. Being religious is just a matter of faith. You don't need an organized religion to tell you what the correct thing to believe is.

4. I cherry pick from lots of different religions to create my own personal belief system.

I think the only people who would have a problem with it is hardcore Christians and Muslims who think "cherry picking" is blasphemous.

5. I have faith in a high power than use , wut im tryna say is im open to all religions i respect all but i dont belive in a god but high power

6.
I feel you on that.

The latter bit is what worries me and made me wanna start this topic

What do you mean by Higher Power?

7. I think you are asking if Religious is still the right term if you are assembling your own belief system.

The answer I believe is no. Religion presupposes an existing belief system to which you constantly re-align your self.

Religion is far more a social designator than a philosophical one.

8. So I shouldn't call it religious?

9. You don't have to be religious to be spiritual.

10. To my mind, I think of the term 'religious' as referring to subscribing to a particular dogma/system/scriptures. So therefore, if you are not bound by a particular system, I wouldn't say religious is the right word. Then again, thinking it through I think the term can have a bit more broad of meaning, so if you still subscribe to 'traditional' ideas about God, morality and the like, perhaps you could still use the term religious. If someone asks me if I am religious, I say not so much religious as spiritual. Then again, some people only see religious and non-religious, and only spirituality in terms of 'religion.'

11. sure, why not

it's your life

12. just know it's your beliefs! You can believe whatever you want and you don't have to explain your beliefs to anyone cause that's just what they are, yours!

13. I think it's still a religion, just not an organized/mainstream religion , the only distinguishing factor is the number of people that believes a particular interpretation. You've come up with your own interpretation, so you're likely the only one that has this interpretation.

When I left my church, since I didn't agree with how things went and also thought it was kind of silly to get spoon fed someone else's interpretation.I still prayed to Jesus and tried to follow the ten commandments. I also thought it was ridiculous to confess to the priest if I can just confess directly to god through prayer since if he's really omnipresent then a middleman(priest) is unnecessary,so I think it's fair to say I would had still been considered a christian not a deist during the time,

Basically once you start abandoning the core foundations shared by all Christians denominations like the belief that Jesus is the son of God, died for our sins and resurrected and etc, is when you'd  stop being a Christian imo.
