Indicas and Orange Trichomes

  1. Hey,

I have been having an issue and I was hoping for some advice.  I wasn't sure if this should go in the beginners forum or here, so I apologize in advance.

During the summer, I grew a few plants for the first time (Early Miss autos under CFLs).  They say that they are 5 week flowering, but I learned from reading on here that those times are usually optimistic.  I didn't see any orange trichomes after 7 weeks, but decided to cultivate some anyway and then let the rest go for 9-10 weeks after flowering started.  At no time, using my 30X pocket microscope, did I see orange trichs like in photos on the net.  I could see cloudy and clear very easily.  I read somewhere that indicas do not always show orange trichs very easily (I wasn't sure if the source was reliable though).  Almost all the herb from this batch ended up being super couch-lock which makes me think that I should have cultivated it early.

Flash forward to right now, I have Atomic Northern Lights (8 week flowering time).  Once again, at 8 weeks into flowering the orange trichs never became obvious.  I trimmed off the most mature parts to dry anyway and over the past 2 weeks, I have been trimming buds off (still no orange trichs) as I am trying to hedge my bets and not produce too much CBD this time, but I want to make sure it is ready.

For full disclosure, I have cut a lot of corners (I never topped or trimmed the plant before flowering, so most of the bottom stems are immature and likely need more time anyway).

Is not being able to see orange trichomes common with Indicas, like I heard?  Would I be better off just harvesting the rest of the plant right now (about 10 weeks into flowering when 8 was advertised by the seed bank)?  I grew this plan on vegetative state for several months, so there is still a lot to harvest.

  2. I don't think most people harvest with Amber trichs. From most of what I read a lot of people like 80% cloudy 20% clear. I'm a noob so just trying to help

I guess it's a personally preference.  Some people do not want any CBD and say that one amber is too many.  Personally, I find a little CBD takes the edge.

The main point, is I was just wondering if anyone else has ever had trouble getting distinct amber when growing indicas only to find out it was CBD heavy after all.

I looked at some of my already harvested Early Miss from a few months ago, and it is full of ambers now, but they sure weren't there before I cut and dried it.
