A bit of background info: I've been told I'm quite bright, and will agree at risk of sounding conceded. That being said, I've always had a natural knack for picking up and holding onto information that is given to me. This naturally equated to me being an excellent student in school and not feeling too challenged by the work.
Lately, however, I have been having the strongest inability to focus on studying/learning/homework. My first assumption was that smoking was making me unmotivated, yet that doesn't make much sense considering I've been smoking since freshman year and never had any difficulty with school. Sure, the reason could be that the work is harder than I am used to, but regardless of what the real reason here is, it isn't what I'm looking for.
My question is this: What do you do to maintain/regain focus when you are having a hard time concentrating on something? I expect at least one "smoke a bowl" response, so to clear things up in that respect: I've tried mixing study with weed, but didn't find the results anywhere near favorable.

Also on a side tangent: I thought of something I'd really like to see at least once. You know those hot wheels playsets  where two cars went round a figure 8 until they crashed? I would like to see a full scale version of that at least once in my lifetime. Two cars impacting and wrapping around each other in mid-air would quite the sight to behold

  2. Set goals and priorities.... the brightest of minds get

bored and unmotivated the easiest of all... sometimes

smoking less cannabis can be helpful.

  3. U can mediate, realize that boredom is a disease, focus on music and if u caant even do this theres obviously a reason and u prob know deep down why ur unfocused
Observe ur thoughts like clouds passing by and you should start to notice ur thinking patterns, good or bad.

  4. A coffee or Red Bull might help you.  I like to have a Red Bull.

It's definitely important to schedule and prioritize too. Get all your shit done so you don't need to worry about it.  Smoking definitely adds to it as I'm like fuck it I'll light up and then do this work.  But then I lost a bunch of time like that. Kills a lot of the would be free time and then you'd rather do something fun.  I like to play poker so that's what keeps me from getting work done.  Also, it sucks to get loaded with work and have to read all this stuff.   All the work piled up doesn't help.
I made sure to get a headstart on some of my work that was due this week, started it last week by going ahead  on the syllabus.  Now I just need to finish up the one for next week and then I just need to do the final paper.
Going to try to get another paper done so then I just need one final paper for that class.

Then there are some other classes that I need to work on.  I have so many fucking papers to do this semester.  My one teacher assigns 3 papers, no mid-term or final.  It's good to not have mid-term or final but writing the papers are a pita, much rather take an exam.

  5. Fuck man, im convinced im incapable of focusing on anything, and because of that, was basically deemed retarded in school. Fucking really sucks

  6. I'm going to echo the first response in here, about maintaining goals and priorities. You're smart person, and when smart people aren't challenged, the mind tends to wander into other territory.

Sounds to me like you need to establish yourself a new goal, or else rework your current ones. When you have a goal that you're excited about, your passion will naturally fire. When your passion is fiery, you'll be motivated. And when you're motivated, you can drive that focus into your schoolwork.

  7. See this is why I feeel schooling starts too early. "when your motivated". For me, "when I was motivated" was too late.

Hate to be the one to post such a negative response but IMO^

I agree, mate. I think it's super weird up that we're asked to make such a major life decision at the age of 18. I sure as hell didn't know what I wanted to do for the rest of my life when I was 18. Nor did I know when I dropped out of university at 19. And again at 20. And when I finally thought I found a career and started establishing myself within it, things changed and I dropped out once again. I'm 26 years old and while I have a number of different qualifications as a result of all this jumping around, I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up.

I wouldn't encourage someone to go to school if they weren't confident about their plans. I mean, sure, higher education isn't a bad thing, and it's certainly a good place to have some experiences, but it's a big investment without any guarantee of a payout in the end.

As for you and it being "too late" to find motivation: it's never too late, mate.

  9. Challenge yourself in a new way that tasks your mind off your current preoccupations. Stress is a killer, don't be victimized, or even worse... bored by weed!

Looking back I realize the way I felt when posting this was due to the stress of multiple high-weighted assignments being due on the same day, which was soon after I posted. Once I finished said assignments I was able to return to normal focus on a regular basis. However, this is always a problem at some point and I thank you all for your answers
