Help with picking out a new desktop please . (Im a computer dumdum)

Discussion in 'Silicon (v)Alley' started by sixshooter, Nov 19, 2014.

  1. Buying a new desktop . Don't know much h about computers so I come here . Lol Anyways we run a buisness and are always uploading pics and printing documents. Looking for something pretty fast and under a 1000 bucks. Been looking on ebay at the apple iMac but I know nothing about computers. We have several tablets and iPads but they are not doing the job . Would like to have at least a 20 inch screen . Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

  2.
Do you want an iMac for any particular reason? half the people who own

them don't even use them for what they were intended to be used for and

only buy them because they're hipster morons who follow Apple products

not matter how crappy and overpriced they are..

With that being said, did you want an AiO (all in one) Monitor/computer

combo, or just a tower and monitor combo? Here are some great starters:

    AiO PC's

    Business Desktops and Workstations

Also, Check out Amazon for great prices as well:

    Amazon.com

  3. So true. I had a sawtooth g4 for work, but was a giant heavy tower.

Nowadays I use laptops, specifically gaming laptops since I tend to play around steam.

  4. I'm not really stuck on apple. I have just heard a time or 2 that they were virus proof . Really just looking for a good all around desktop . It can be a all in one or a tower . Just as long as it holds up good . My boys play a few games but not much . Our computers tend to get cluttered up . Probably just because we don't know enough about them . Probably need some memory to store pics (as we are bad about deleting them) we take alot .

  5. We also do picture editing and maybe burn a few songo . Is Dell a pretty good brand ?

  6. absolutely not do not buy a dell. i recommend sony

Agreed with OP...dont buy a Dell. unless you just need something to hold you over tell like Christmas or something. I would suggest HP. they seem have decent computers now-a-days...even for brand new ones can even handle games pretty alright so it would be awesome for what you want to do. should be in the price range you want. Just want to make sure you have a big Hard Drive for all the photos and such your going to have.

So for what your trying to do..you can easly get like a 400 dollar computer at Best Buy. You dont need anything fancy at all. Just the Hard drive space, decent RAM so you can multi task and not wait forever for things to load.

  8. What exhazer said. Search for computers but be looking at ram and hard drive space. I bought a quad core hp desktop about 4 years ago and I still use it to play some games and run some video editing software.

    Definitely want:

    Desktop
    $1,000 Budget
    Minimum 20 inch screen
Decent HD capacity (for pictures and other files)

    Also probably want:

Minimum i5 CPU or equivalent (for resource-needy media editing programs).
1920x1080 resolution screen (for viewing & editing high res pictures).
Minimum 1TB Hard Drive (HD pictures add up!).

= Stay away from Dell & HP.
= Macs: Definitely overpriced & can absolutely get viruses.

    My suggestion:

    Desktop: ASUS BP6375-I73770039B Desktop

Monitor: Dell UltraSharp U2414H 23.8" LED LCD Monitor

    Subtotal: $994.74

    Desktop Specs:
Intel Core i7-3770 Processor (3.4 GHz)
    8GB DDR3 RAM
1 TB 7200 rpm Hard Drive
    Intel HD Graphics
    Windows 7 Professional.

Hope this suggestions helps! Let me know if you have questions.

  11. A desktop or a laptop? I thought desktops were obsolete. Tablets are all the rage today.

  12. Just get something cheap with at least 6gb ram and get a ssd drive for it

  13. I would go lenevo or acer if you want to go PC over mac, they've both come a long way.

Just dont get an HP, total garbage.
