The ULTIMATE guide to cleaning/reclaiming oil rig

Discussion in 'Concentrate Tools' started by musicmanlv, Nov 13, 2014.

  1. After a lot of trial and error I have mastered a technique for reclaiming all of your oil out of your glass and putting it to good use.

    Items needed:
    -A very dirty rig
-Everclear (any clear, high proof alcohol will work)
-A glass dish to evaporate alcohol in (I bought a drinking glass for a dollar and it worked perfect)
    -parchment paper

This is a pretty easy process to do. It just takes a little bit of time.

    Step 1:
Start buy taking your high proof alcohol and heating it up--the less you use, the quicker this takes, about one cup should do. You can either use a microwave or a double boiler on the stove to get it almost to where it's boiling.

    Step 2:
Warm your glass rig. If you pour hot alcohol into cold glass, it will crack it (believe me, I've lost a pipe this way). Run warm tap water over your glass for a minute or so just to keep it from breaking.

    Step 3:
Pour the heated up alcohol into your warmed glass. Almost instantly you should see the alcohol strip the reclaim off of the glass. Plug the holes and give it a shake and in less than 5 minutes 100% of the reclaim will have dissolved into the alcohol.

    Step 4:
Pour your alcohol/hash solution into your cheap glass dish. Make a double boiler and and just wait. Let it boil down to a thick goop.

    Step 5:
It's up to you guys now! You've successfully cleaned your glass and you should have a lot of hash to smoke or make edibles with. I make hash chocolates by adding a few chocolate bars to the solution and mixing throughly. Pour it onto parchment and throw into the freezer to cool down. (WARNING: careful of your dosage. These CAN be strong and CAN get you too high. I've had it happen and it's really unenjoyable)
If you choose to smoke it then keep boiling it until you can't see anymore bubbles forming.

That's it! Pretty easy, huh? I've seen so many people with so many different methods on how to do this and wanted to give you a definitive method with definitive results.

    Stay stoney, friends  :bongin:

  2. This is discussed like once a week at least. And everytime the person post it like its his new idea

  3. You forgot all of the most important things...

Good reclaim starts with low temp dabs to begin with. Dabbing at low temps leaves you with material that can be dabbed again and even tastes good too. It seems to be just as potent as your starting product, only it's a different high... I always feel sleepy dabbing claim. It's because it's been decarbed already from dabbing, and most of what was there has degraded to cbn or cbd.

Store your rig in a dark place. Just like sunlight can slowly lower potency of flower, and even more so for oil and hashes, the same thing goes for reclaim. Whether you plan to drink it as a tincture, eat it, or dab it how strong it is matters. I leave my rig in a cabinet in my bedroom. I feel like it's best to have it out of plain sight anyway. Even if family is ok with it.

From experience i've found to change your water daily, use HOT water to rinse out the rig in the morning. This melts out some oil. This keeps you from getting too much dust in the claim and helps wash some dust out of the rig that builds up when it's sitting around overnight. The difference between a rig that has the water changed daily and changed every other day and water that's never changed is huge. The old water does something to taste, and really makes it terrible. Also the claim gets this white fuzz in it if the water isn't changed... it looks like mold but probably isn't. Let the rig cool slowly after running the hot water through, as i feel the glass temperature change in my hand i slowly cool off the water. Don't shock the glass.

If you plan to dab it, winterize it.
Even if it was winterized before, freezing and straining help to get everything nasty out. Even if you decide not to winterize it put it through a couple unbleached coffee filters at least to get the dust and other contaminants out.

If your dabbing it, either do a warm water bath and vac purge, or do a warm water bath, let it sit for 24 hrs and then put it in the oven at 175 for 15 minutes. Alcohol's evaporation point is 173 Fahrenheit, so you should be guaranteed cleaned product at 175. And since it was dabbed before, whatever decent taste might be left shouldn't disappear at these temps.

Depending on the oil i usually aim to dab the reclaim. I usually get stuff that's pretty tasty to begin with so the claim ain't bad. If something comes through that i wasn't to fond of I save it up for edibles. A gram of claim in peanut butter is a guaranteed KO for me. It's nice when i need sleep and just can't. I mix it all up, let it sit on the stovetop until i see a bubble or two, mix it and let it sit on the stove until it bubbles again. I put it in the fridge until it's cool and then eat it with a banana. The whole process takes a half hour and you're guaranteed to be asleep in an hour after eating it.

  4. I know its just reclaim so it doesnt really matter but you should def switch out the "cheap glass dish" if its goin on a double boiler. Unless its pyrex or someother brand rated for stovetops thats asking to crack it

  5. This guy knows exactly what he's talking about^^^^^

I've been thinking a lot recently about hot water bathing my reclaim, can you elaborate how you do so? I'm just trying to think of the easiest way without getting the material stuck to the container and such.

  6. I collect my reclaim in a small non stick container like you keep your dabs in. Every time I add to it (and when I'm bored) I'll set the container on the stove with the lid off. Turn the burner on until it gets hot but not too hot to touch briefly. Keep turning it off and on and moving the container around making sure that the bottom isn't getting too hot. Should basically purge any ISO/water/butane out if there's any left. A lot more simple and effective than a hot water bath but both get the same effect
