Cloning Your plants.

  1. I can't seem to find a cloning guide on GrassCity. So here is one.

Note: if anyone has their own way to clone, please post it up. I know there are several ways to get it done. Let's try to keep it to the best and fastest ways.
-Mods; If there is a clone section, add this to it/put this with it/Pin this in grow guides/ Whatever you think needs to done with it.

I use a DIY aero cloner. 390gph pump, 18gal tote.
I have a silkscreen mesh bag over the pump to keep the jets from clogging.
    I feed the mum/s B1 and a good supply of Cal/Mag for a week b4 taking cuts.
    I dip cuttings in Clone-x.
I put in Great White, and few drops of B1, and a bit of root starter. I bring tds/ppm to 150.
(my fish pond water is 30 ppm, Tap is 40 ppm)
I have them under a 4x2 T8 with 10,000 kelvin bulbs(used for aquariums mostly), running about 50+/- watts. A humidity dome, and a heater in the water set to 80f.
I have 100% roots, and I see them start to form in about 3 to 5 days.
\nI did not cut stems at a 45deg, did not soak in water, did not strip away some stem skin. I only cut off the bigger fan leafs.
Simple cut, dip, place in cloner.
\nNov 2nd pic, when I put them in the cloner.

At day 3, very small white bumps form on the stem where roots will shoot out.
Nov 9th, pics of roots. some have not rooted yet, but those are tops with big fans still attached.

The feel of the roots and leafs are stiff. as if they were plastic. Very strong plants. The stems give off the wonderful cannnasmell.
\nI have read that it's only a internet myth to have roots on clones in just 3 days. till I did more research and tested all the dif methods used with aero-cloning. I could now very well be a myth.

  2. Excellent technique sir. Those roots look strong as hell!

  3. Very nice guide. I want to make a cloner just like this soon, I have just been putting my cuttings into rockwool in a dome with a heatpad, and have had 100% since switching to that from a bubble cloner.

What sized screen are you using to ensure that the nozzles font clog?

  4. I just used what I had lying around. It was a bubblebag demo. Someone I know was selling bubblebags and had this bag for show and small demos.
Anything smaller then jet size would work. I believe my screen bag is 100 micron.
Some grow stores sell screen bags for submersible pumps. around $15.

I've had good success with rockwool too. I haven't done jiffy cubes tho.
I'd just take cuts, place in a pan with a raised tray. fill with water to bottom of cubes, put a dome on it. and leave it under my hids.
I know of ppl that just cut, dip in clone-x, and stick it right into the bucket they plan to grow in, dome it with a 2ltr clear bottle for a few weeks.
There's a youtube vid of a guy putting plastic bottles filled with soil, right in the shoot to be clones. then cut it off soon as sees roots hitting the sides of bottle.

  5. I would think bubble buckets would be the same setup. only with air instead of water jets.

  6. The problem I found with the bubbler was I was getting root nubs but no actual roots. I think I needed a water heater to see roots, its getting fairly cold here. I want to try it again when I have a bit more cloning experience.

I too know people who just clone in 2L bottles, usually like 5 or 6 clones per bottle and they just separate the roots carefully. My friend swears by straight tap water in a cup with nothing else, no dome or anything, just cuts the tips of leaves. Roots in 7 days every time for him. Its awesome there is so many various ways to clone effectively

  7. So, try your bubbler again, this time with a heater in the water.  :smoke:

  8. The only way to get more experience is to keep doing it, try dif things every time. eventually you'll find the sweet spot.
I found a sweet spot, and thought would be good to post it up for all to know.

yes, plain water will work, the stems don't suck up nutes. but I have nutes in the water for when roots do sprout.
No dome would work if you live in high RH and warm climate. I've rooted roses in a windowsill.

  9. If they have too much light, they try to grow.
they don't have enough stored energy to grow and root.
I tried under T5's, but they grew and took a long time to root.
With smaller lights, they just root, as if it were dark. but have enough light to get the energy needed to live.
