I had to read it through a couple of times, but if I understand you right, it would seem to. I think the difference between mathematical evidence and experimental evidence is one that's mostly lost by the time it gets to the public, same as the "if" I mentioned earlier.. Explains why we take string theory so seriously at least. I've had to show people quotes of michio kaku saying that it isn't proved before they stopped trying to convince me that it is.
