  1. Interesting article. California just voted in to reduce MMS and change felony possesion to misdemeanor possesion. The cops are all frustrated about this because they cannot make a case for arrest.

  2. is misdemeanor just a ticket or like community service?

  3. According to Wiki:

\tMisdemeanors CaliforniaA misdemeanor is a crime punishable by imprisonment in a county or city jail or detention facility not to exceed one year. Except where the law specifies a different punishment, a misdemeanor is punishable by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding six months and/or a fine not exceeding one thousand dollars. However, many misdemeanor offenses specifically list a punishment that exceeds the punishment listed in Penal Code section 19. For example, a misdemeanor violation of Battery on a Peace Officer is punishable by imprisonment in a county jail for up to one year and/or a two thousand dollar fine.

    Here is the deal.
If you get a felony, you are basically screwed career wise. You will also likely face some jail time or harsher punishments.

If you get a misdemeanor, you can get it expunged in the future. Once you have it expunged, you don't have to tell any employer about your past. You will likely have to do community service or just pay a fine.

In all truth, you don't want to get either of these.

  5. here's the deal. that's misinformation, I got my felonies expunged. it's different for everyone based on priors and charges.

  6. What was the process of getting  your felony expunged?  I'm in the thick of hiring folks for my tourism business and it's a damn shame that I'm finding some of the most talented folks have felonies.

  7. I think even expunged felonies still show up on certain types of background checks, ie. government ones.

I could be wrong about this in the States tho
