Hello fellow growers and Organic Soil Enthusiasts! I've dedicated much of my life to the pursuit of healthy plants of living soil and have been looking for a place to post journal entries, keep track of progress, test new ideas and post photo's. In the past I've kept journals on other forums but it's been a long time and I'm eager to get back to it.

Thanks to Clackamas Coots for helping me along the way when I required guidance and special thanks to BlueJay for the inspiration that his garden provides. Also big ups to every organic grower along the way that inspired me.

I've grown No-Till in the past and about 6 months ago I dumped my old soil into the garden raised beds and started from scratch. This journal will document my first run in a fresh soil mix and how I transition into a no-till growing style.

I'm using 30 Gallon Geo Pots. I'm growing in an oversized 8x4 tent and only half is full right now with 4 plants. I'm about to add the other half so that I can go perpetual and harvest once every 30-40 days.

    I used this soil recipe:

    2/3 Part Worm Power

1/3 Part Oly Mountain Fish Compost

    1 Part Sphagnum Peat Moss

    2/3 Part Pumice

    1/3 Part Rice Hulls

    Nutrients included in the soil:
Acadian Kelp Meal @ 1/2 Cup per cubic foot

Neem Cake and Karanja Cake 50/50 Mix @ 1/2 cup per cubic foot

Crustacean Meal @ 1/2 cub per cubic foot

Gypsum Dust @ 1 Cup Per Cubic Foot

Brix Blend Basalt @ 1 Cup Per Cubic Foot

Glacial Rock Dust @ 1 Cup Per Cubic Foot

Oyster Flour @ 1 Cup Per Cubic Foot

    To this I also use:

    Compost Tea
    Coconut Water Freeze Dried
    Aloe Vera Powder
    Ful Power Fulvic Acid
    TM-7 Humic and minerals
    Sprouted and Malted Seed Teas
    Occasional Fermented Plant Juice

Integrated Pest Management: (Up Until day 15 of flower)

Once a week I spray with a mixture of Neem Oil and Agsil16H and sometimes Essential oils.

These Photo's are all on Day 30 of Flower. I'll take some time to go back and update with all the photo's that lead up to this point here shortly. I've had a couple challenges along the way and I'll share that stuff too. Right now I'm no day 34 and eager to get the first harvest in!

Making Thermal Compost to feed the worms.

I used some fencing I had laying around my property to make two Round bins about 5-6 feet in diameter.

In the first bin I put 3" of Barley straw from my chicken coop full of manure along with some crustacean meal, neem cake, kelp meal and basalt. Then I layered an inch of garden soil.

After that I layered 3 inches of grass hay, 1 inch of barley straw, a coating of Neem, Kelp, Crustacean, basalt and then a layer of 1" of soil. I repeated these layers until the bin was full.

In each layer I added some home grown comfrey and nettle. I also added a Kombucha Scoby somewhere in the pile.

After two days the bin was 160 F in the center and ready to turn on day 3.

It's now been about 15 days and the final 5th turn will be today.

I use the Second bin to turn the pile into and back and forth until done going thermal. While Turning I focus on getting the stuff on the outside of the bin into the center and the stuff in the center to the outside.

  3. Good morning MHG! I'm glad you started a journal. Love seeing your beautiful garden man. I have been wondering what happened to you over at the other place.

Looking forward to your updates from starting your new soil and going no till. I am attempting no till myself. I am using 10 gal smart pots or similar brand. I was concerned about going bigger while growing in a 4x4 tent. You have 4 30 gal pots going in a 4x4 tent space as well, did I read that right?

Yeah it was a really fun summer. I'm currently helping my friends start a small farm on some land in grand county. If we cant get some compost cooking before winter i may be drivin that way to pick up compost/ammendments for our greenhouse next spring. We may be aiming to go the caregiver route opposed to commercial because we can also provide the patients with quality organic food. Being a coloradoan, any good colorado breeders/seed companies you can vouch for? Im fairly disappointed in our current lackluster cultivars, and that worries me moving forward with a semi-commercial operation in the spring. Ill probably give a few things from la plata a shot

You ever tried anything from 303 seeds? I'm growing their Bio-Diesel and it's pretty nice! I have their Sasquatch but have not grown it yet.

  10. Thanks for the warm welcome Chunk! Pretty amped to have an area to journal, really helps when I can look up old dates regarding timing in the garden.

Right on! If you can find something quality and local that would be awesome, but either way I'll be around. The Colorado Seed thing is kind of a trip right now. For me, on the western slope, it's tough to find anything and Colorado seed companies might as well be overseas. That being said I'll usually find seeds or cuttings from friends or I'll find them online and go with whatever sounds good. I actually just went through a seed phase and purchased quite a few.

Clackamas Coots will love this one, I actually found a strain called Snozzberry from AlphaKronik Genetics. Then I actually ordered 10 seeds because I want to be able to say, " The Snozzberries taste like Snozzberries," and mean it.

Besides that, if you find a way to get Colorado Gear that's worth it, I would be stoked to find out.

I would love to get my hands on more 303 gear but for now I'll be busy with a few Bodhi seeds I'm excited about. I've heard good things about his seeds, but I'm not very in the loop on the breeder scene. In the past I was gifted a few Blue Tara seeds from a friend and they were excellent! So I can only hope for these new ones. Did you get your Bio-Diesel overseas or locally?

  11. That's some funny shit! I love that movie!

I got my seeds at a dispensary in central city. Alpine wellness in telluride sold them too, not sure if they do any more. What do you got from Bodhi? I was gifted some tigers milk from him. Haven't tried them yet. Seen some pics of blue Tara, that looks real nice!

  12. Here are some shots of my bio-d. I don't know if you remember, but this was grown in the soil you had made for me that I mixed with the soil I had made myself.

All my friends that have tried this have liked it.

  13. Sorry if im clogging your thread, but i called organix in breck and another one of 303's dealers in littleton. They were both out. Maybe theyre just inbetween harvests or something. The dude in breck said they sell super quick....i bet they do

Any seeds i would get from friends wouldn't be legitimate seed crops, and most likely just a herm seed they found while trimming...no bueno

Im holding out hope for a set of clones my friend gave me though. He said it was one of his favorite smokes while the dispensary grew it. Meh, ill probably just pick a strain that sounds good online and order like 50 to go through for winners next round and beyond.

  14. Hello and nice to see you again MHG.

    J

  15. Good morning everyone. Glad to see you got a Journal up Jeremy. I shall be lurking.

Regarding colorado genetics. Ever hear of mile high seeds? I've only seen like 4 varieties all crossed with Super Silver Haze. Seen em on NGR. Good price on them also for testing.

Anyways, good luck on your garden and keep on truck'n.

  16. I have seen their stuff on the website. The sweet island haze looks good!

  17. I'm looking for a good cindy hybrid and I'm considering theirs or maybe OGS's satellite cindy. Pineapple blueberry YUM.

  18. I've got a Cindy99 Agent Orange that is about to go into flower. I'll update with some photo's soon.

  19. Build a soil is awesome. All my amendments and ewc come from you guys. Organics is super awesome. Oregon green seed is awesome too. Ive got cindys blue cheese going into flower today. I like where this thread is going. Your garden is lovely, MHG. Those flowers are gorgeous. Looking foward to future updates. Im grateful that you and your company exsist. Be well,

    -Agg
