How Much Do You Tip?

Discussion in 'The Great Indoors' started by quadridincopedipper, Nov 2, 2014.

  1. If I get bad service, I round to the nearest dollar. For example, if bill is $15.66, I'll give a $0.34 tip as a big screw you

Though normally I give between 15 and 25% especially delivery drivers, like the one who just got a $10 tip for a $20 pizza because he had to drive in the snow.

So,.how much do my fellow blades usually tip? How much is appropriate? :smoke:

  2. minimum 10-15%, I only tip higher when I'm higher. haha.

  3. Double the tax

  4. Usually 20%, more or less depending on how good the service is

just depends, but im no cheap ass.  im not greedy like so many others in this fucked up fuckn world.

i'll use my new haircut lady person as an example...   she charges 11 dollars but does a good job and acts like she gives a shit.  I gave her 20 and will continue to do that each time, IF the quality stays consistent.   Now, I had been to this salon two times prior, and a couple of different girls kind of half-assed me and made me push them for moar perfection.  They still got the 20, but I felt like an asshole about it. I did it since I was grateful to at least have found someone with half a fucking brain to cut my hair. I had some really bad haircuts before this place.   Had I continued to be stuck with either of them, I probably would have brought a ten and a five to make 15, as a reflection of the quality and also a statement that you get less this time bc I knew coming in that you suck.

The 20 dollars started at my OLD place which the girl there was great but had a bad attitude and was too full of herself, was also the owner and her employees sucked so you could never go during a busy time.   I gave her 20 every time for years and years even after I moved, until one day I got tired of her bullshit.  She charged 14.95 for a very detailed cut but the one Im getting now is even better actually, for 11.  I mean 20.  I think 20 dollars is reasonable for a good haircut every howevermany weeks.  Pretty good for 20 minutes of work.

Drivers, I tip well bc I was once a driver myself and i know how much it blows.  Ive been known to drop a dollar bill in the jar for like 6 dollars worth of food at Chipotle, thats partly so the ppl standing in line could see me do it. Just so they know im not greedy. Chipotle's gross, with all the troughs, everthings getting all mixed up and breathed on.  Bc of that and the long lines, i dont go there any more.   I minimize eating out in general bc the idiocy drives me nuts, and that allows me to tip moar when i do occasionally go somewhere.

I work in a restaurant and I'd always tip 20 percent, no matter how the service went. They make $2.35 hourly and oftentimes work 9+ hours. People need to start upping what they tip. Just ate at cracker barrel with my girlfriend, mother, grandmother, and aunt. Grandmother offered to pay the bill as one. I told the waiter 2 checks after we decided finally who was paying what. I paid for my girlfriend and I which was a little under $30.

I tipped her $45 just to be generous like usual. I handed it to her with the $1s on the outside and asked for a box. When she returned I asked her to make sure all the money was there. She figured she made just a couple bucks like normal. But when opening up the wad of 1s she saw the two $20s and looked at me with a big smile. She thanked me, told me how she had only made $10 for the night so far. I explained where I worked and wished her happy holidays. She nearly cried by the time I left, but it helps to help others.

  7. 20% all the time. Regardless. I'm not one of those friendly, smiley, outgoing customers so...I tip well to prevent anything from happening to my food the next time that I order some. And servers and delivery drivers make very little to begin with. They really should be paid a living wage and any tips they receive should just be a bonus on top of that. I've personally never worked that kind of job but, I can imagine that some days and some customers can really suck and get on their nerves.

  8. 20-25% but I have been a server. I feel if you are to much of a cheap ass to leave a decent tip then you shouldn't be out in the first place.

it is very rare that i tip anything.

Except for delivery, i tip at least 15%

  10. I've never heard this. Used to work in the industry, know how bad it sucks. Usually never less than 18%.

That being said, don't be afraid to let me know what's up. I'd rather be told why I sucked than just receive no tip...

  12. If I'm going to a fine dining place, 40 or 50 bucks if great service, 10 or 20 if I had to ask for refill or napkins, 0 if really bad.
When I go to high end sushi bars, I'll tip a 20 before I even sit down. Trust me, it works. I'm a chef.

    Most places, about 20%.

  13. I wouldn't make a second trip then to a restaurant. In America servers get $2.75 hourly. Solely live off tips. Unless of course you live in another country. Then I hear servers make hourly.

  14. do any of you tip for a pickup/to go orders? i mean sure they have to prepare your food, buy i'm the one driving there & back

20%    ...I've worked service and it sux......here are some VERY generalized observations I have made in over 50 years of life regarding tipping...dont shoot me, I'm only the messenger and these observations are based on real life examples...reality for you may differ but I'm here to tell the truth.

The British SUCK at tipping. If you get 5% feel lucky. They just dont feel obligated to tip...so they don't.

Blacks and Asian people dont tip as much as whites.

College students dont tip well..except college women,,they tip fine...no idea why, maybe they have experience the men dont.

My wife is British and she gets annoyed when I go back and put more money on the table...she has 100 reasons for why they dont deserve it..in every case.....every time.

  16. i don't tip

  17. We dont tip as per say in Australia because the servers actually get a good hourly rate. But I will usually hand them the small change if the food was good as an extra thankyou, because tipping doesnt happen here much so they are usually thankful even if it is only 3or4dollars.

  18. 20% or higher depending on the quality of service.

    siiigh.

What I really don't like is when you get the bill and at the bottom they TELL you how much 15-20 percent is. Like they're already assuming Im going to tip, and tip at least 15 percent. That assumption alone is enough for me to say fuck you, and move about my day.

And I don't want to hear your fucking sob story about how shitty the service industry is. It's not like these waiters/waitresses thought their gig was going to be something special.

Want to make good tips? Then do your fucking job well and exceed expectations. Don't fuck up my order, forget to refill drinks, and don't act like some bitch/asshole who's tired of being on their feet for an 8 hour shift.

In other words.. fuck your tip, you entitled piece of shit.
