First Tattoo design thoughts.....

Discussion in 'Tattoo, Piercings and Body Art' started by shermdawg767, Nov 1, 2014.

  1. Hey Grasscity stoner! I wanted to share my first tattoo design idea I came up with. It's a guy with his legs crossed with a calm facial expression. While his brain is beginning to float out of the bottom half of his head and the top half is floating away(like a lid for a jar). I would like to somehow incorporate dotwork maybe by having it shaded with dots but I'm not sure yet.

I haven't made an appointment with the artist I have in mind because I want to save a bit more cash. Pretty much I'm going to give her the paper and let her influence it ImageUploadedByGrasscity Forum1414881493.535566.jpg and clean it up from the original idea. So far I'm planning to get in on my left inner bicep. I can't wait to get it!!! Let me know what you guys think below!

Is it going to be black/gray or colored?

Its kinda like a hieroglyphic, right?

  3. I'm going with black/grey but I want the artist to draw it better to look like a person.

  4. hieroglyphic's all the way! I think the dudes on the top right are blazing. They did brain surgery's and shit back then.

  5. Look OK by my opinion

  6. Have you made it in any tattoo shops?

  7. Unfortunately not yet, I've had to fix my car so I was low on cash but I'm where I want to be now. So I plan setting up a consultation in the next 2 weeks. And plan to have it done around the beginning of January.

  8. You should add vibrant colors coming out where the brain is..kind of like...you have all this beautiful knowledge and you are sharing with the world.

Well just an update if anyone cares. I went to the shop yesterday and met with the artist for a consultation. It didn't take as long I thought it was only like a 15 min talk.

Anyway I meet her, and she took a look at my rough sketch idea I posted earlier. She liked the design and I told her I was going for a black/dot work style influence on the image. From viewing her portfolio she has worked on this style majority of the time and I feel confident in her work.

She basically measured my bicep with a sharpie on what I think was sketching paper. And we discussed the size. Which will cover some of the bicep but not completely. Then I gave her the two images I drew up so she had something to base it off of.

After that I made an appointment for March and then I will be getting my 1st Tatt! Can't wait to see the final design!

  10. Sounds like your doing it right!

  11. I hope so I trust she will re-design it into an amazing piece. I guess the consultation didn't take long because I already knew what I had in mind. Do you have any tattoo? If so how's your experience?

  12. I have one big tattoo all black/grey :) I have a artist that I trust now and know the end product will be nice and clean. I have gotten a tattoo by people that dont speak my language in 3rd world countries LOL The 3rd world tattoo turned out kinds shitty but my local guy cleaned it up.

I like to drink a REAL fruit smoothy before a session as the sugars and stuff are good for your body thats about to be stressed.

  13. That sounds cool man! I've heard people say eat something sugary or drink a Gatorade before so I don't pass out. I'll post a picture to the thread to give an update.

  14. Did you get a price quote? I'm going to guess $200.

  15. She said she charges $150/hr but also mentioned it shouldn't take over 2hrs. I'm curious on how to tip? I guess I'll pay at the front desk when the tattoo is done.

  16. $150 an hour sounds pretty steep. I thought $100 is the average for a good artist. At $150 an hour I would not give more then a $10 tip.

  17. I've heard some people say it's a typical price and some say I maybe paying a lot. To me if the piece is something I will love and the artist is skilled I'd be willing to pay the price.

Thats a good way to look at it. The guy I have been going to just started giving me lower rates @ $100 an hour, frequent flyer discount!

Can you post a picture of the black/dot work style  that your getting it done in?

I found a tattoo shop that charges $30 an hour . I checked out their work online and it was good for $30 an hour but I saw some shaky lines and shading that wasnt the best. They had a lot of good feed back but its not for me.
