Starter mix help

  1. I have my soil mix cycled for a little more than a month and ready. The seeds have been put to germination this morning and now I need to get a starting mix in order. What's your opinion on the following, and suggestions on the ratios:

    Coco
    EWC
    Rice hulls

Note: Peat is not an option as the variety i get here in Pakistan is lightly fertilised, coco however is dirt cheap but needs a good rinse. I make my own EWC.

Here is my mix for when the seedlings have grown:

  2. How long is this starter mix going to be utilized? Not sure with coco but with peat I put around 10% castings 25% aeration. In solo cup, peat pots, whatever.

  4.
As long as it needs before going into the full potency soil, which is now going to be my next question  :smoke:

  5. From seed you will be good in that starter mix for 3-4 weeks.

  6. Brilliant. Thanks Buddy

  7. Right, so my castings weren't ready as i thought they'd be so i've sowed the germinated seeds in peat and rice husk (80% - 20% respectively), dash of Great White mycorrhizae on the taproots/holes and Azomite.

Would i be okay with this for the first few weeks before i transplant into my full potency soil mix which has everything in it?

I have some liquid seaweed extract at hand too. Read it's a great growth stimulant.

  8. FWIW, the best thing I've found for seedlings, freshly rooted clones and the like is un re-amended mix after a grow, MJ or veggies, doesn't seem to matter what was grown in it.

It is mild and depleted, but still has enough nutrients for young and tender plants and has a well established micro herd.

*I* just save all or part of a 5gal container and leave it outside so it gets rained on and the sunshine. Usually some weeds get started and are left alone till I need the mix, then pulled. The weeds also give a good indication of the richness of the mix.

Some of that mix you made up sometime back would be perfect.

    Wet

My main mix has been recycling for more than a month now. Should i just weaken it a bit with peat/aeration amendment and transplant the seedlings into another container with it making up 1/3rd of the bottom?
Or would you suggest sprinkling some of the full strength mix on top and watering it in?
