  1. Ahh sorry for the long thread/rant but I need advice and freaking out.

Been smoking since April I'm 18, just got caught tonight. Came home said hi to my dad and then shit got real. He didn't yell but had a really serious tone. He told me literally every stereotype about weed. Told me how it makes you a low life, how it's addictive, it's a gateway drug, it's a stupid habit. I knew he would be pissed but he was happy how I owned up to everything and defended myself.

Obviously I view weed the complete opposite from him but he makes it sound like it's an addicting harmful drug and it will ruin your life. But I've had social anxiety my whole life and weed makes me open up and talk it's great. Reduces my stress to a minimum Also helps me fall asleep at night but of course my dad doesn't let me explain.

I'm in a province that is fairly lax about weed, you can get charged but never do because its not worth it for the cops. My dad's trying to tell me how I'm gonna get arrested for smoking a joint, or having small amounts of weed on me...I simply said sarcastically why don't I just go get a medical card then I can legally do it? He got super defensive saying that's not the point it's the lifestyle that is associated with smoking weed.

Have to take it all out of the house, never wants it in the house again. I am working full time, completing two online courses, and contributing around the house so I am not letting weed negatively affect me. I only vape at night. If I'm keeping my priorities straight then whats the problem? I would know if I had a weed problem and I never have before. Also tells me it's bad for your asthma but I only vape and my asthma has never been better. I hate how he makes shit and isn't educated about it.

  2. whether you're 18 or 28, if you're living under another person's roof it is always wise to respect their wishes while around them...

if you want to get your medical card, do so. if you take action and show it is important, that might plant the seed of hope.

  3.
You know the answer before asking it pal,

You are not going to change your dad's views about cannabis..You can ask him to watch The Union or another good documentary talking about a lot of the lies about cannabis, but he is most likely going to stick to his views.

Unfortunately, you are just going to have to respect his wishes, or get another job and pay for a place on your own.

  4. You're going to have to assert your dominance, dont let him talk to you like that, show your father you are top dog. With your fists. Like a lion cub when hes grown to an adult and his father is withered, with an eye missing, and a limp, and cant catch deer anymore

  5. best advice. I did this when I still lived at home.

  6. You aren't top dog until you can pay for your own place, why risk his home for weed?

You just gotta do it elsewhere, If you cant change his mind, you wont. If he's open to conversation, make him watch a documentary and say if he still disagrees with you smoking cannabis for medicinal reasons, then you will, and you'll go get some pharmaceuticals instead, even though they are deadly.

  7. +1 for documentary.

calm down there is no need for a short story or for you to freak out. Say you will stop and be discrete or try to persuade them
