Metal Pipe Question

Discussion in 'Smoking Pipes, Glass Spoon Pipes' started by Paul1990, Oct 29, 2014.

  1. Okay so i just recently bought the pipe in the picture attached. When i bought it i didnt realise that the stem bit was plastic (acrylic watever), as most metal pipes the stem is also metal so i just assumed it was. I know im a noob for asking this but i was wondering whether this was bad having the stem plastic, that maybe you might start smoking the plastic after some time. The actual cone piece bowl or watever is metal, but i wasn't sure whether the plastic might start giving off fumes since the smoke is so hot from recently burning. I know this is probably a dumb ass question and im a noob but yea any help would be great. Also i know that glass pipes are a million times better than metal ones, but im not in the position to get one.
    Cheers :)

If you're able to send it back or bring it back (unused or very clean) then do it. And then buy one of these. Will the acrylic heat up and cause toxic fumes ? I really can't answer that question. Maybe someone else here on the forums can answer that question.

You will have an additional taste to your smoke because of the acrylic/plastic.

As to the plastic breaking down I would say under normal use conditions the answer would be no.

However, plastic is bound by heat. So an open flame exposed to the plastic pipe may cause it to break down.

In addition to the open flame, direct sunlight and other intense heat may also cause the plastic to break down.

  4. Cheers fellas, if anyone has anything else to add or disagree with anything said I'd appreciate it

  5. I wouldn't smoke a metal pipe ever again. The metal typically used in cheap pipes is so substandard, that there will be oxidization. I would buy a 5$ glass pipe. So much more worth the effort

  6. HAD A PURPLE ACRYLIC... ALL BAD! THREADS MELTED W/IN A WEEK!!

  7. Op, ive noticed that the plastic is wrapped around a metal tube. Even if the plastic WAS heating up, and realeasing nasty shit, your inhaling through the metal anyway, and I see no reason why your smoke should come in contact with the plastic for any reason.

  8. That pipe will be okay to smoke out of.

  9. You'll live

  10. I had a really cheap plasic and metal pipe like that. It tasted fine as far as the plastic goes, and when I cleaned it I noticed a slight melting around the front of the threads. My .02 anyway. I would go with glass.
