Turkey Trip Entry #1: Introduction

Discussion in 'Real Life Stories' started by TheGingernational, Oct 29, 2014.

  1. Hello smokers and tokers, cheech and ch-bongers, meditcators and procrasturbators. I'm Tobias, and here's a real life story about my soul-searching solo backpacking adventure around Turkey.

I kept a really meticulous journal while I was there but it's all handwritten. So, I want to get a digital copy of it and figured I may as well share the story with you!

I like to think that my adventure is interesting to read about so if you do to then just look for the title "Turkey Trip Entry # __" by TheGingernational. I'll update the journal as often as busy daily life allows me to here in Real Life Stories.

If you don't think following my adventure is interesting, then I won't be offended by you scrolling past my title to a better sounding topic. I will however attempt to convince you with some personal photos.

And that's just the teaser. So keep an eye out for me and I just might share with you my story.

  2. Welcome to GC, mate. :smoke:

How long were you in Turkey for? I've never been, but it ranks highly on my bucket list. I hope that I'll be able to see it for myself on my own upcoming adventure.

  3. was expecting an actual turkey trip. not a trip to turkey or a turkey tripping. but still cool!

  5. I was there for about a month. I left the last week of August and came home at the very end of September. I was gone just long enough to get truly out of my rhythm and it's been a crazy time readjusting to life back home in Seattle.

  6. Reverse culture shock. I know those feels all too well. Y'know what the best cure is? Get out there again!

  7. Not really that interesting being Turkish myself

  8. Oh I intend to! I have friends in Australia that are getting married next year in Adelaide and told me that if I can pay my own airfare they'll put me up. I also made a ton of Australian friends in Turkey (hostels are full of em) so I want to try to do another solo venture around that country.

For now though I'm trying to settle in and stash away pennies so I can get there. This feels like a real weigh-station more than a deep root.

I can say from experience that Australia has the potential to change your life. I came to Oz from the UK in 2011 to do just that -- take a backpack adventure around the country. Four years later and I'm still here. This place'll latch onto ya.

I wrote about a few of my Australian travel experiences in this thread here

The funny thing I've found about the travel bug is that the more you see, the more you want to see. There's a song lyric that goes, "I've driven across deserts driven by the irony, that only being shackled to the road could ever I be free." Sums it up pretty well in my books.
