How do you make full melt QWISO hash?

  1. I can make some decent QWISO hash but it never comes out full melt...

    This is my process:

    1) Freeze trim / bud

    2) Put 91% Isopropyl in freezer for same amount of time as plant material

    3) Pour Isopropyl over plant material in jar

    4) Let sit for 30 seconds

    5) Shake for 30 seconds, dump and strain through 1 coffee filter into pie pan / plate

    6) Remove excess alcohol after trichomes have settled.

    7) Allow to evap for 24 hours.

It comes out nice and golden, even blonde sometimes, but it never melts... Why? What am I doing wrong? Do I need to squeeze the plant material in the coffee filter or something...?

  2. For step 6, your letting the visible sediments settle at the bottom of the pan, then your scooping out the alcohol above it? If this is what you are doing for step 6 it is unnecessary and will cause you to lose yeild. Just let it evap by itself or use a griddle.

And I have no idea why your qwiso isn't melting lol. I have seen even darkest particle filled qwiso bubble.

  3. you're washing it for way too long.

    20 second shake max..

don't let it sit at all.

  4. Forget even 20 seconds...go for 5 seconds top

  5. Got it, thanks everybody. I did four tiny washes last night after posting this, each one done a little differently, and now that they're almost done evaporating I can see a difference (in the appearance at least) in the ones that had shorter wash times.

Thanks again. I might be back with more questions, but I think I might be pleasantly surprised.

  6. Alright, so I did two washes with buds and two washes with trim. Washed for less time than usual, a slightly different amount of time for all of them. They all melt. The nug washes are full melt. One is like a wax consistency, the other is more like Crumble BHO.

The trim runs melt partially but not completely. You can also visibly tell they are less pure, so I'm thinking it's because of chlorophyll content.

Did two more experimental washes with trim just a while ago.

One, I did a wash for twenty seconds (no sitting time) and strained it through one coffee filter

The other, I washed for 10 seconds and strained through two coffee filters.

The second one looks way less green, but I'm not sure if it is because of the shorter wash time or the two filters. Can coffe filters catch chlorophyll? Lol.

  7. The shorter the time the iso is exposed to the material the less green it will be. Also try using a strainer first then using the coffee filter. This will also shorten exposure time helping with color and purity

  8. Excellent. That makes sense.

Honestly though I think 90% of the issue with my stuff is the condition of the trim I've been using.

The quality, as far as number and ripeness of trichomes, is great. But the condition isn't good.

I had to pull my plants before I could finish flushing thanks to asshole rippers.

I think if I would've been able to flush it all the way it would come out fine.

Did a wash of some of my friends stuff. Couple small nugs, lot of Shake / trim. That oil came out amazing. His plants were flushed correctly.

  9. I usually wash for 20-30 seconds but when straining with coffee filter it takes 3+ minutes to fully filter.  Which results in the iso being in the herb longer.  Might try some cheesecloth next time see if that helps, or even a reusable coffee filter.

  10. I guess I wasn't clear on that part, I do put a smaller strainer in front of / above the coffee filter. Only liquid and tiny tiny particles of plant matter end up in the top coffee filter.

It's just, my trim is all still so loaded with nutrients that it extracts chlorophyll ridiculously fast. I found that both 5 or 10 second washes produce very good results for me, even with the ultra-green trim. I can't remember which one worked better, I have it written down somewhere. I want to say it was actually the 10 second wash that produced gold/yellow, 100% full melt oil.

Either way, I know what works for both bud washes and trim washes now.

Too bad I went through 90% of my trim figuring out what I now know.

  11. Don't the trichs get stuck in the coffee filter I just tried to make qwiso and only shook it about ten seconds then poured thru filter it looks green and I think next time I'll try and just seperate the liquid from the trim without using a filter maybe just pour off the liquid onto the plate and just hold the trim in with a spoon like when I pour off the water from Mac and cheese.

  12. I think I will just wash the plate it looks green and I disbelieve the trichs passed thru the filter I looked in the jar and I saw what appeared to be trichs in the alcohol in the bottom of the jar no way they pass thru paper they just combine to the paper maybe half get thru maybe not.

  13. Hey, glad to hear from you Psycho :)

Even though I started this thread to get information for myself, I can help you out a little bit with what you're doing there.

I was trying to do the same thing at first - gather entire, whole trichomes. As it turns out though, that's not the goal with QWISO. The alcohol is actually extracting oils FROM the trichomes. Same idea as BHO - You don't blow butane to knock off trichomes, the butane dissolves the stalk / she'll of the trichome and the oils inside are collected.

I use up to three coffee filters to strain my QWISO now. You don't want ANYTHING solid in your evaporation pan when you're done.

Green isn't HORRIBLE, it just means there will be impurities. Less desirable flavor, not quite as potent.

I had the same issue with green though. I finally found that a ten second, moderately wash, using moderate agitation is best.

Try some of these pointers and let me know how it comes out.

Don't let it sit before you shake it. At all.

Shake for ten seconds MAX, and be sure not to shake too hard.

When you pour it out, be sure to put a metal strainer to catch your plant material, so that you don't have any leaves in the alcohol while it's dripping through the coffee filters.

Also, make sure you're sticking your isopropyl AND plant material into the freezer for AT LEAST 30 minutes before you intend to do the wash.

And, last but certainly not least, use the highest concentration of isopropyl you can get your hands on. I've used 91% with great results. I'd like to try 99% eventually.

70% will give you a yield but it will probably be very mediocre quality.

Anyway, I followed those steps for the last time I made some, and even though the liquid was still slightly green, it evaporated gorgeously. When I scraped it up, it was a pure, yellow-gold colored powder that melts and completely evaporates when you burn it. I call it Honey Dust lol.

  14. You can also scrape it up after all these steps and make it into shatter by putting it in the oven.
