Upward canoeing leaves? Please help

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by MadamGanja, Oct 21, 2014.

  1. I noticed this morning that the upper leaves on my largest plant are canoeing upward. Can someone help me figure out what this is? I believe the plants may need more nitrogen, due to the yellowing of the bottom leaves on my larger plants and a yellow spotting on one upper leaf. Mayb the curling is frm that too..? This is my first grow as I havent had my card long. Help? :c

  2. Curling is heat stress, yellowing looks natural. Reduce temps or move light up, more air flow, otherwise appears healthy

  3. You might have a male there, close eye on that come flowering

  4. Thank you! Ill move my lights up a bit and setup a fan to see if that helps:)

  5. I just had this problem severely. Yours doesn't look too bad. My problem was definitely heat. Once I switched from a 400-watt MH to a 1000-watt my problem got 2.5 times worse. I lowered my plants, raised my light, and adjusted the air flow. Seem to be helping quite a lot, but I still have some more work to do before the climate is completely under control. I've posted pics here somewhere.

  7. I know they could use more light, like 600 more watts. But 400 is what I can do right now:x I mean, they dont appear to be droopy or anything, and theyre a nice dark green. I know itll effect my yeild, but this is more or less a trial run so Im not overly worried. Then again Im no expert obv lol. They seem to be alright now that Ive added the fan and raised the lights, (pic attached is same plant that had wonky leaves). A cool plant is a happy plant :) Also, my biggest babies didnt have more than natural light for the first few weeks of life, could that stunt their growth at all? Theyre just mersh so it not like I have an estimate at how big they should be :/ (Same plants as in pics)

  8. 400w? I wouldn't say you "need" more, but more is always better haha.... I don't have nearly that much in my micro grow for multiple plants.... Your mersh bud is going to turn into super bud if you grow it right. What is your soil mix? Got a photo of your grow space?

  9. Oh that's plenty I apologize one pic looked stretched I had thought ...

  10. I think after you said that, she mentioned that she had them using natural window light before, probably cause of the stretch, I was curious too when I first saw it

  11. Ok so maybe I lied, its 300w not 400 lol. But yeah. I'll attach pics of the soil (though the writing on the back is too small to get a pic of) and of my setup. Its really ghetto though so don't laugh at me lol. I'm still so new to this that I haven't invested much into equipment.

Try moving your lights closer they look like they're going good they're just stretching towards the lights.i normally keep them 12 inches from the top of the plant.

  13. What are the specs on those lights and where did you get them (I can only find postings on ebay)? If those lights are hot, you probably should switch them out for similar wattage CFLs, that way you can reduce heat and bring your plants closer.

I agree with Snake Chamber, I think your plants are stretching a bit. Heat stress is evident from physical curling or folding (down the middle) of the leaves. Yours just seem to be stretching from the base of the leaves.

  14. Definitely more light. 3 leaf blades at your top node is no bueno considering your threw 5 at the node below it.

  15. Yup they're from eBay lol. As I said, I didn't invest much into my setup. I'm a tattoo apprentice so I'm not really making any money yet. My lights were much closer, but I moved them up higher to fix the heat problem (which totally helped.) But I imagine that will make them need even more light. Unfortunately I can't really switch bulbs right now. However, I had bought a 4 pack so I would have spares, so I can probably get another clamp light and run 3 instead of 2. That raises the problem of the heat again. I could turn the fan up a notch but I don't want to harm my plants somehow with it. Doesn't help that I live in a split level ranch, so the room they are in is 3/4 underground and also the warmest room in the house. I suppose I could crack a window on the opposite side of the room, but I live in Maine and things are getting cold here fast, I don't want to give them a draft they are uncomfortable with. Idk. Solve my problem and you'll be my hero cuz I'm stumped:p

  16. Also, I think that's a trick of the camera on the smaller plant in the middle, like two sets of leaves overlapping from the angle. None of my plants have more than the 3 bladed leaves.

  17. Not really a problem yet. You can veg with virtually any light. The slight upwards turn and canoeing are way to slight to blame on anything. I see no nute burns, no heat stresses showing. Just allow better air cycle and let them do their thing. I have closet grown with virtually the same stuff bit the yield and quality lacked largely because I wasnt using good products. You can definitely still pull some herb like though.

  18. Update:) still nothing amazing, but better than they were lol.

  19. Can you shorten the height of the box they are in and maybe get a fan blowing from the bottom pushing all the hot air from the lights up and out? If not with the lights being so far away your going to continue to have problems. I honestly think if you can get the lights 12" away and maintain temps you could start over from seed and have bigger bushier plants then you have now in 2 weeks. AlMost all those plants energy has gone into growing in height to reach the light rather than actually growing more nodes and leaves I'm not trying to be a dick I'm just being honest and I think you would be wasting your time trying to flower those. When you could start over and get ahead of where you are now in 2-3 weeks.

Don't be discouraged by any means you managed to keep the plants alive and healthy for as long as you have and that's a accomplishment in itself

Whatever path you choose to take I wish u the best of luck

  20. He's got a point, we're all trying to help! Could sit the plants on some books or something sturdy that's higher.... Maybe your issue isn't lights too close, but not enough air exchange to remove a stuffy room of hot air?
