Microsoft Surface Pro 2

  1. I'm thinking of getting a Pro 2. I can get one new $550, used for less then $300. I'm planning on using for multiple things. How close is it to a laptop? Can you play full PC games like Combat Arms on it?

I want something to replace my laptop on the go. I can't carry it everywhere, but I could carry the tablet everywhere. What marketplace does it use? Google play?

I've never had win 8, but I've used it. I'm not to familar with windows tablets though.

Lastly, If I bought a WiFi Stick for portable internet, would it would in the USB drive? (Stupid question, I know. But I don't know if a tablet works differently then a laptop).

  2. It has an intel processor so itll run any software that a normal computer can. As far as being able to run games, you'd have to check the system requirements for the games first and see if the Pro 2 can handle them.

Its running windows, therefore it doesnt natively run android apps. Software will either be downloaded the same way you'd get it on a normal computer or through the windows store (for metro / "modern" apps)

It has wifi capabilities built in so you wont need an antenna

If you want it to work like a laptop, youll want to invest in a keyboard cover.

  3. Thank you so much, That answers a lot. Still on the fence on getting it though.

Also, I meant the USB hotspot, The ones that plug in. Still compatible?

  4. Im not 100% sure but i think it should. The pro 2 runs a full version of windows so the drivers should work unless theres some compatibility issue im unaware of

I have ordered a surface pro 3...due for delivery today...excited.

The SP2 (like the SP3) is full Windows 8.1 thus it is just like any Windows PC/Laptop. It can download apps from the Windows Store. Additional software can be installed so it can run and download android apps, too.

As far as full pc gaming - like most non gaming laptop's it doesn't come with a dedicated GPU. Thus it shouldn't be your first choice for modern high end gaming. They will all technically install etc just some of the more resource heavy ones will probably lag.

There is videos of folks gaming on Surface Pro 2's on youtube. Looks alright as long as you don't push up the settings (like most laptops not designed primarily for gaming!)

Think of this device as a fully blown Windows laptop in a tablet form factor man - the same rules apply with the surface pro's as on normal laptops. I don't fully know what you mean by the usb hotspot but, with what I just said in mind, it should work fine.

shows Skyrim being played on the SP2 - "At Low Settings 720p it Plays very well at 55-60 fps and No Lag at all. Low settings 1080p is ok as well at 30 fps with little lag".

  6. Does BitLocker come installed on the pro 2 (128gb)?? Or do I need to pay extra for it?? This is quite important because I want to encrypt my drives.
