School to prison pipeline.

  1.
Literally the same thing they have been saying for thousands of years

“Our youth now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for their elders and love chatter in place of exercise; they no longer rise when elders enter the room; they contradict their parents, chatter before company; gobble up their food and tyrannize their teachers.” - Socrates

  2. The money is there, they spend millions on police in schools and billions on our prisons. But can't spare some extra dimes towards more counseling and alternatives for troubled students?

  3. Media has corrupted the minds of youth. Look at miley cyrus, look at bieber and look at all those young RNB rapstars.

    What's in common ?

they all are supporting vice, like booze, sex, drugs, and getting fucked up doing stupid shit

kids of this generation watch that , and imitate that.

When the world we live in has dropped the bar to the point where anything goes on T.V , you can expect a decline  in the morals of your youth pure and simple.

  4. Damn kids! Get off my lawn! :devious:

Well, the money (and yes this country still has tons and tons), is there for education, but not in the right places. I agree if that's what you mean. Schools are funded by taxes, and to the extent that we don't want to pay them or don't vote at all, we get exactly the kind of government we deserve. Don't blame the IRS for taxes when congress writes the laws and tells them what to do.

Not all schools are equal, either. Why is that? I believe every school for kids in the US should be funded the same, and funded well, but people are greedy and don't want to share, or are told to believe something like that is "socialism" and "Obama already took your guns, now he is coming to take your kids away!" Nonsense. Education is everything.

  5. call it whatever you want. if i cared what you thought about it i would have stopped long ago lol.

  6. Clearly it's the poor parenting,
Ppl need to have the time to give their kids, teach them right from wrong, Teach them their rights, and the punishment for violating others rights.
Ppl need to school their kids, have a hand in the school system, the curriculum, test's, ect.. NOT let the gov tell you or them what needs to be learned in schools to get ready for a life on their own.
If the parents were involved in EVERY aspect of the learning system of THEIR kids, the gov wouldn't need to fund schools, and the gov would have no right to even be there.
Thus, preventing your school to prison theory.
Not to mention, the Gov cant simultaneously brain wash your kids into thinking the gov rules over them.
Home school your kids, don't let them become victims of the tyranny system.
If you don't have time to give YOUR child, then you are NOT ready to have a child.
Don't blame the system cuz you can't raise a kid properly. Blame the system for being corrupt, yes, but not cuz ppls kids haven't learned to respect others and their rights.

  7. I heavily disagree with the counseling. I have found that if my focus is else where like surfing or skating then I am less likely to start doing stupid actions that result in bad consequences. This is often the same for lots of other people, they have to find something to do when they are bored and this usually results bad decisions causing them to get in trouble. Counseling is a waste of time compared to other methods. All about finding something for the person in interest to enjoy and take up their time where they usually would have committed a crime. Give them something to care about, something that will matter to them if it is taken away. Give them something to do that will take the pain from the world off their shoulders and push it away without doing anything that will cause an inconvenience to others.

    Sorry about the spit :)

  8. But counseling could help with finding an alternative for them. Lol

  9. it could.

  10.
Lots of schools already have support like counseling for students. The fact is some kids just deserve to be suspended or expelled, they just don't give a fuck. It's not hard to succeed in a high school environment if you actually just give it an honest try.

Nobody gets expelled from school for no reason.

  11. People do get expelled or "referred" for bullshit reasons all the time. Don't get me wrong a lot of times there are real behavioral problems. But we've hit a point where the punishment doesn't fit the crime. I've had a client that had was arrested because she was wearing a tank top to school. Now I don't doubt she probably was disrespectful when confronted about this but she wasn't violent so why is giving a 13 y.o a juvenile record called for. I've also heard of preschoolers suspended or expelled multiple times over common behavioral issues in kids that age. Like hitting or pushing another student. And of course we can't deny that minorities are much more likely to get thrown into this pipeline.

Does poor parenting or unstable home environments contribute to some of the behavior problems? Undoubtedly. But should we be criminalizing these kids for trying to deal with the shitty hand they've been dealt?

And though in some situations counseling won't "solve" the problem it can help to have an environment where they are encouraged to build on their strengths rather than being demonized and labeled for what are likely their misguided attempts to get by in life.

Sorry when you've seen the impact of this pipeline it's hard not to be angry. Rant over.

  12. Beautiful rant, couldn't have said it better myself, ever.

  13. +1

  14. Must be some fucked up schools then, I went to high school in B.C. and girls would come to school wearing outrageous outfits all the time, they didn't get suspended or a fucking record, they just got sent home to change.

If two dudes got in a fight they'd get 2 week suspension, no criminal charges wtf. Smoking weed during school hours was 1-2 weeks. Cops only ever got involved in fights with a weapon.
