Tattoos and Connotations

  1. So I'm getting a full sleeve in Japanese traditional done over the course of the next few months, and a number of people have said to me that it would be entirely unprofessional to have such a thing. I disagree.

However, I do understand that society would dictate that I'd have to cover it, and it doesn't bother me, if it's for work, but I don't understand this perpetuating stereotype that people who have tattoos are unintelligent, or unprofessional, or lowlifes or thugs or gangsters. I've been in restaurants and heard a woman ask for a different server because her's had tattoos. That's completely absurd to me...

People who have tattoos don't go around calling tattoo-less people squares or goody-two shoes for their lack of tats. People are just super judgmental and it drives me crazy. Tattoos are a person's creative expressions and stories on the most personal canvas there is; themselves. It's permanent, and it's theirs forever. What does anyone stand to gain by telling anyone that their tattoo is dumb or stupid, or worse, makes them a bad person? It's not even yours! You don't have to live with it!

Anyway, I love ink! How do you blades feel about it?

  2. I share every sentiment you have, so not much to say.

People are judgemental cunts, so fuck 'em. Live your life for you.

  3. I don't have any tattoos but I don't care either way. My girl has a lot of ink on her arms and a couple face piercings and she works in a grocery store pharmacy. I feel like the social norm you're describing has been dying out for awhile.

I see people with sleeves doing all kinds of work. I work at a machine shop and the bosses have a lot of tattoos, mostly ex military, but still.

As long as it's not guns and gang tats you should be alright.

  4. Nah. I'm going for something with a lot of symbolism in it so that it actually tells a story in a way. I would say that I agree with you that it is dying out, but it does still exist where I live. Haha

  5. People can be judgmental, and that's part of the deal when you get tattoos.  Some people are just going to hate them.  But then again, you don't need everyone in the world to like you.

  6. i have had people with tatts rag on me for not having any...so it goes both ways. people will find anything to judge you and feel better about themselves

  7. Don't get me wrong man I don't care about ink.

But some people hold certain a beliefs that tattoos are wrong on a spiritual level.

    Don't agree with that however...

People are going to judge. And people are still going to get ink. Let it happen

  8. I know how it feels. I am covered in tattoos. Lower left leg sock, feet, back, thigh, stomach, behind both ears, back of my neck and my hands and wrists. I am currently working on a upper half sleeve on my right arm of flowers.

But I am forever having snide comments thrown at me on the school run when people see them. Always horrid remarks and even my kids have had things said at them. People can be nasty when they want to be.

Some people hang their art on the wall, I prefer to use my body as my canvas

  9. I'm pretty sure times are changing. I kinda think tattoo's help you get certain jobs.
