Air-Cooled Hood Ventilation Question

  1. Hello Grasscity,
Im looking to start my 600w tent grow, and have some questions regarding setting up the ducting in the tent for the carbon filter and air-cooled hood.
For setting up the ducting in the tent, I was thinking  Filter===>Hood===>Fan====> would be a good way to align the components. My only concern about this method is that is would be using the hot air from inside the tent to cool the light fixture.  Another order I had read about said  filter - fan - light - exhaust would be a better order than the one previously mentioned.  Is one of these orders better than the other?  Should I use neither order and be drawing fresh air in from outside to cool the light?

    These should illustrate my point.

  4. So the cool air in. Where's that coming from?  Surely not right at the carbon filter intake.

  5. Just out of shot down the bottom is where the intake fan blows in but i like to run ducting from the intake fan into the tent and between the plants below the net obviously!.. I then block the end of the ducting up and cut whole all along the ducting so that the fresh air is being blown up through the canopy to help reduce the chances of mold as its quite humid where i am.. Towards the end of flower i connect a dehumidifier to the intake fan so that i am blowing dehumidified air through them again to fight mold but also because if you can lower the humidity in late flower i seem to have noticed that they seem to have more resin.. Just my own opinions and experience

both configurations work...but having the fan before the light has a slight advantage for 2 reasons...
    1. the fan isn't sucking heat directly off the lights....since the fan is running at a cooler temperature you might get a little more life/efficiency out of your fan.
    2. having the fan before the hood pressurizes the hood, ensuring that any leaks in hte seal of the hood aren't affecting the smells coming out of the exhaust. If you run the fan after the hood, you create negative pressure in the hood and there's a chance you can suck in stinky air through the hood if it isn't sealed properly.

the advantages are slim...unless your hood doesn't seal well.

  7. Buy a decent hood is key.. Personally i think that anything made by sun systems/sunlight supply are the very best quality the one in my picture is an 8in blockbuster
