Toyota Truck Talk 4x4

Discussion in 'Planes, Trains & Automobiles' started by Green Knight, Sep 30, 2014.

  1. Welcome to the Toyota Truck Talk 4x4 thread!  This is a spot to bring your stories about your truck, adventures, off-road experiences, pictures, videos or whatever else you have.  Are you repairing or modifying your truck to preform outside the boundries of the norm? Bring it on in here and let's see what you got! All badass trucks welcome!

I guess I'll start it off...

I own a white 2005 Toyota Tundra 4x4 extended cab. I'd like to add a bed topper and a lift kit so I can easily camp in the back country when I'm off-roading. So far I've beaten the Alpine Pass (Colorado) and a few others... photos coming soon!

What about you guys & girls? :D

Off-roading is big where I live in sc but it's flat so all these good ol boys do is drive threw puddles of mud and make a big splash.
You need mountains to really enjoy it.
I've never had a truck but want one really bad.
    I'd love to have this:

I'd be scared off roading it in that condition tho.

    Cool thread btw.

  5. 4 banger for the win. I got a 2012 2.7l reg cab 4x4. I got some shit to install but I gotta learn some basic wiring first :p. Eventually I would like a icon suspension.

You guys Google the "Alpine Pass" Colorado. I knocked out a 25 mile trek that started just before dark last fall. We ended up in another small town over the range, which is where our camp was. I was practically doing breathing exercises to keep my composure. Even though we were in a convoy, I was second in line- when you see the tail lights of the one in front disappear, it's spooky! That is a must do for any 4x4 enthusiast!

I've got more photos somewhere around here...
ImageUploadedByGrasscity Forum1412269539.683404.jpg We made it around the ridge but it kicked our asses, lol.

Took the 05 Tundra 4x4 TRD... It's just basically factory, but next year it won't be :D

  9. I am not a huge fan of Toyota's but I do like some of the older trucks. I am also into scale Rc trucks. There are a couple of places you guys can get kits from or you can do a scratch build with. The fun part is you can make it look almost like your real ones.

I hope you guys don't mind me posting these in your section but RC yotas have a huge following.

These truck can be equipped with working winches even.

    Oh and nice rigs guys.

Damn, I thought those were real at first... :D ... Looks like you ran em through some mud lol.. :)

Off Road Package (TRD) is an optional package on a the 4x4... Also available on 4x2. It gives the driver off road shocks, skid plates, higher suspension (ground clearance) and a locking or limited slip rear differential and tow hooks (for pulling yourself out of muddy situations).
On the 4x4 it gives it more power to get out of stick situations, on a 2x4 it will help you some but not as much as if it is 4x4. Some like the look of the higher suspension but don't want to pay for 4x4, so they just get the Off Road Package.

I plan on doing a 4" suspension lift, and I really want to put a bed topper on it and turn it into a camper! I like the thought of just pulling over on the trail if need be and have what I need on my back. I plan to locate me a WARN wench with air compressor. There's nothing more convenient than letting the air out of your tires before the trek, and being able to put it back in afterwards :D. Besides that some rock rails or something & CB... I'll be ready for some more challenging treks like Black Bear pass... Oh yeah! Lol

  11. You should look at some brand specific forums. I am a member of a tacoma forum and they have coupons and group buys on a regular basis. I got a All Pro IFS skid plate not to long ago for $200 shipped.

  12. Heck yeah, bro. I've been a Toyota man all my life, and reckon I always will be.

My current ride is a 1986 Landcruiser BJ74.

I bought it stock and out-of-state about three years ago, and drove it 2000 miles home during our first few days together. She was reliable then, and she's still reliable now. That's what I like about Toyotas. I drop a little bit of coin into her every time I have some to spare, but since I'm leaving the country, she's up for sale. It's going to hurt to say goodbye.

Additions include sliders, swing aways, roof rack and light mount, the 35s, and a 30mm lift. And the sunny fucking paint job. I always talked about having a snorkel rigged up, but never got around to it and now I never will. I built extra seats in the back that double as storage, and put in a new head unit and UHF.

I've taken her outback and off-road my fair share of times, but she really shines during camp trips. I've put a lot of miles on the ol' beast, never let me down once.
