Upgrading to HPS lighting

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by SacredSmoke, Sep 29, 2014.

  1. I'm nearly through with my first grow, which is 1 plant from bagseed.

Dealing with CFLs has it's ups and downs, but from what I can tell, you can't beat a HPS for simplicity and sheer power. Sounds good to me. :D

So here are a couple questions I have, regarding a HPS light setup.

    1. I plan on getting a tent that's 2'7x2'7x5'2.
Is this too small an area for a 400w HPS?

    2. If so, I'll get a larger one (3'9x3'9x6'5).

    3. Will 4 plants fit comfortably inside (1) or will I need (2) for that

And the last question, that I almost don't need to ask:

You can use grow tents for soil setups right? xD

    Any help greatly appreciated. Peace.

  2. I realized 2 isn't a question, just roll with it.

The light is a good size for the tent. I would be concerned with 4 plants though. I vegged 4 white widow for 35 days, flipped to flower, and they overwhelmed a 4ft by 4ft area. I am doing organic living soil, water only in a tent. If you were doing autoflower you might fit 3 in there possibly 4 with little pruning to avoid mold and circulation issues. Make sure to consider ventilation ( removing the lights heat actively )
