Fetal Alcohol Syndrome in adult- can medical marijuana help?

Discussion in 'Medical Marijuana Usage and Applications' started by ScrapPaperu, Sep 28, 2014.

  1. I have a relative who was born with fetal alcohol syndrome. I have personally used marijuana to treat my PTSD, seizures, and pain. It has really helped to keep me functioning.

I was wondering if anyone had used it to treat an adult with fas? Could it help repair the brain damage caused by alcohol over time? What would be better, vaping or edibles?

I cannot find anything about this on google (I just get warnings to not use cannabis during pregnancy)

  2. I've never seen anything about cannabis treating FAS either. If it could help repair brain damage, my guess is that RSO would be best. Vaping provides more cannabinoids than smoking, but not as many as eating RSO.

  3. I don't believe anything can revive dead brain cells. It is a nice thought op but I don't think this will help your relative out at all.

  6. Thank you guys for the comments and replies.

My relative has never done any street drugs (never smoked or drank alcohol either). But I wanted to see if maybe marijuana or cannabis oil would possibly help him. He has not yet indicated that he would try it, but he is not against it so maybe someday...

It wouldn't hurt to try, right? Thank you, Gem, for suggesting the oil. I will see if I can get my hands on it or something similar. Fortunately, my relative is not retarded and actually very smart. But they do have problems functioning in some areas and I want to do what I can to help improve their quality of life.

  7. Look into psilocybin, it is the best treatment for cluster headaches (people only have to take it once every 1-2 months and they never get headaches). I have no idea how it would work with FAS but I figured it helped something in the brain so  :confused_2:

  8. I live with fasd. been through the conflict of medication over the last 30 years. Marijuana is the only thing that helps all aspects of daily life.

  9. I would love to hear how it has helped and how you used marijuana for FAS. It seems to help my son a lot but it scares me as I do not really understand the best way for it to be used

  10. The thing with FAS is that it's not just brain damage, it's that the brain was never developed due to alcohol inhibiting normal development during the window of pregnancy so THC could potentially help manage FAS symptoms but once the window of pregnancy is over there is no way to build the missing parts of the brain so to speak.

  11. I just wanna comment about a girl that I knew had FAS I had numerous classes with and was top of her class in each one. These were not easy classes, Organic Chemistry I & II/Genetics/Behavior Neuroscience, she was consistently the first one done during an exam and earned a high if not the highest grade in our class. It would help but it depends how severe the child was exposed to alcohol during gestation.
