I'm at my grandparents in upstate New York. And they have a massive pond filled with pickerel and some catfish. But since the pickerel are way more abundant, I will be fishing for them. Because they're so bony, I'm just going to fish for fun unless I land a big one. I'm a complete amateur when it comes to fishing, and just need to be pointed in the right direction bait wise. Originally, I was using this lure that imitated a small bait fish, had 2 treble hooks dangling from it, and had this lip by the fishes mouth that protruded from it to help it dive in the water. It worked great, I was getting a fish on the line once every 5 minutes. Then I tried casting much farther and then the lure came off! (Of course I looked up the proper tying method afterwards.) but now I need to get another lure. Ipeolle call them different things, plugs, crankbait. So what would be best? Thanks
Topwater Rapala Skitter Walk is a good one, but a bit expensive. You can get Bombers from Walmart for a few bucks each.
Yeah just get some Rapalas or Bombers. I prefer bombers and they seem slightly cheaper. Also could try shiners.
Anything shiney, loud and obnoxious. Top water too. Nothing like the thrill of having a fish nail a top water lure.
Here's the exact lure I use in north western Ontario, we haul in so much pickerel on these: Its called the matzuo asai shad Sent from my SGH-I337M using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Most crack baits will work wonders. It'll help to have an idea of the ponds death. You can buy them that dive anywhere from 6 inches to 20 feet!
I know its late but pike love spinner baits. I'll throw spinnerbaits, top waters and xraps for pike all day Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
