  1. Hello there I was just wondering some of the top quality earth warm casting(Ewc). Any suggestions?,?

  2. Maybe check if anyone in your area produces and sell EWC's. Farmers Markets could be a good place to start. Most grow shops can get Roots Organics EWC's. They seem good, they say that they feed thier worms compost, kelp and rock powders. It's expensive though, around $50 for a big bag...SW

Aurora Innovations (Roots & other brand names) is based here and you do not want to use their potting soils, worm castings or amendments. They buy their materials from the same brokers as the rest of the grow store 'dirt' companies.

    Nice labels though!

    Good to know!

Roots ewc is sub par humus material...tried it in a mix way back when and it doesnt compare to the stuff I pull out of my bin, nor the local commercial product here (morgan composting/dairy doo castings) which is good as far as bagged products go.

The castings I bought online when I started this gig were pretty decent though expensive they're available in most of the US....Coast of Maine carries excellent products as far as potting soils and compost go if you can source them locally or find a mistake in shipping prices like I did it's pretty cost efficient.

Bu's Blend compost products are top notch though pricey and limited in distribution...Worm Power has some of the very best processing and management tools in the entire world so top notch quality is very consistent but again expensive unless you can locally source from a retailer.

Always check your local resources, especially heavy materials that cost $ to ship.

One of the products under the Roots brand was described by them as an 'extract from a rare and unusual desert plant that we've procurred'

Turns out the product contained yucca extract......

  7.
That's exactly how they sucker you in. Must work, after all it worked on me.. LOL.

That's why my picture is posted in local grow stores - a red circle around my face with a red diagonal slash across my face. At the bottom it read: Do Not Engage This Asshole

That's because I read labels and verify that against the MSDS that THEY filed on my cellphone. Can't fool me - ever. Much to their chagrin.

    LOL!

  9. If you don't mind me asking: what's wrong with yucca extract? I've seen it in some natural health care products (like toothpastes) and supplements, so I'm just wondering if there are some precautions I should know about.

  10.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with yucca extract at real world prices. At $20.00 for 2 oz. with Roots on the label it's a joke. A rather expensive joke at that...

Just yesterday I had a grow store employee try to explain to me the reason why my worms won't touch the compost I bought from them is because it's so good and so thoroughly broken down that there's no food left for the worms. Doesn't explain why they won't even crawl across it. When I told him I didn't believe him, he gave me a real dirty look and then ignored me...it was great.

Worms don't 'like' or 'dislike' this or that food item. That's an urban joke.

Worms do not have stomachs which means that the only thing that they can ingest is bacteria slime which is converted to castings through enzymes.

Ahhh ... the rare and elusive desert yucca.  :ey:

Those things confused me for quite some time, till I finally saw a pic of one. You see, I would eat Yuca (Cassava), several times/week, it's a mainstay of Cuban food. Still do, easy to find, frozen and great with mojo.

The spelling is what threw me. The Latinos spell it both ways. In fact I have a bottle of garlic mojo where it's spelled YUCA in spanish, and YUCCA in the english just below on the label.

The extract bit really had me scratching my head. :confused_2:

  14. Human food-grade yucca extract (Yucca schidigera) can be sourced from T & J Enterprises, Spokane, Washington.

    10 - 12% Saponins

Yucca extract is the material used when mixing organic potting soil (commercial) for its saponins which they list on the label as a 'wetting agent' and when used in a foliar spray it's called a surfactant.

    I don't get it either...

  15. I beg to differ.

Do not pour v8 onto your worms! They hate salt!

Dont ask me how i know this :p

  16. Pants don't like salt either in spite of Maynard Murray's myths - SEA-90

LOL! Yeah let's dump sodium chloride on our soils - that should help!

  17. You wasted 1/2 of a Bloody Mary!

The unimportant 1/2 to be sure, but still.  :ey:

Is that the stuff from 1 mile deep, harvested on a full moon, and inoculated with Vestal Virgin pee?

  19.
Your thinking about the "Gold Salt" from the EM-1 crowd - harvested at 400 meters but ONLY during a full moon!

    How f*cking special is that?
